So I applied this cycle and have no interviews yet, so I'm giving up hope and I realize I should just start to getting ready to apply for next cycle.

I was wondering if any of you wise SDNers can give me some advice as to what to do! 🙂

I'm finishing up my fourth year of undergrad and I'm not sure if I should focus on raising my science GPA or focus on retaking and doing better on my DAT, what's more important?

My stats are 3.3 overall GPA, 3.1 Science Gpa ( 🙁 they took out my research units and it turned out to be lower (on my transcript it says 3.2) lol ), 3.9 Non Science GPA (too bad they don't care about this one)

Dat: PAT 20
BIO-19, GCHEM - 17 (YIKES), OCHEM - 21, RC - 20, QR -18, AA-19

help 🙁
thank you all in advanced!

You need to pull off a superman and focus on both; your GPA and DAT.

1. Retake the DAT, gets 20+ in the sciences.
2. Get your application in within the first week the app opens.
3. Boost your GPA with the classes you have left.
4. Step up shadowing of different dentists including specialists to show a continued interest on your part.

Best of luck!

If you have specific schools in mind, call them and ask them what you can do to improve your application. You can set up a meeting with them to discuss your app and it will also show interest on your part. I agree with Babyblue though, retake the DAT and get your application in early!!

Keep working at increasing your grade trend even though your gpa will move up a very small increment - they like to see an upward trend and that your still working at improving your grades. Re-take the DAT!!!Aim for nothing lower than a 20+ overall b/c your science gpa is lower.

I have a 3.2 overall 3.0 sgpa (as of just this fall sam - takes forever to pull it up i know!) I got 4 interview offers (also apply earlier b/c i had my dat on hold which held my app back a bit)....

finally talk to schools you really want to go to - get your name in there ask how to improve etc

gluck!

ahhh that makes me feel better!!

do you guys recommend taking a full load full of bio courses then to raise my science gpa? (3 bio courses + art + research) or just drop a bio coures and have an okay load to have more time to study for the dat and focus on doing well on the 2 bio courses i would take.

thank you all for the help!
I think I will start studying for the dat again too to retake it soon
