I got my MCAT results back from april 28th and I got a 25. I am looking to retake on august third. But I was wondering is it too late? I really just want to get into my state school University of Arizona and I am one point away from there bottom 10 percentile. Should I submit my app june 5th anyways and retake august third? or submit right after I retake it? Or is that too late? GPA is 3.8 sGPA is 3.71

If you would rather get in anywhere than wait a year and have a better chance at your first choice, apply broadly to low tier and DO schools early this cycle.

If you refuse to consider DO, your best chances at an acceptance would be to wait to apply until next year. An August MCAT means your primary won't even begin to be reviewed until September. If you do well you might still get some acceptances at MD schools, but your best bet at your first choice is wait to re-take and apply until next year, obviously making sure you get a good MCAT score next time. :luck:

Right.

But remember to apply to DO you need a DO doctor's LOR. I am having the most trouble with this. Trying to shadow DO doctors, and almost landed one but then they never called me back. It's terribly frustrating.

Thank you guys for your responses. So do you think i should still apply to my state school and some low tier schools than in june or wait until august?

If you are re-taking the MCAT in August, schools won't review your primary app until the new scores are released in September. If you are going to apply this cycle and re-take in August, you will want to apply to a single school when the application opens so you are verified and your app is sent to schools the instant your scores are released. If you wait to apply anywhere until you have your scores, AMCAS won't even begin to verify your application until that time, meaning schools will be getting your app in October instead of September (September is not good, October is very bad for primary submission).

If you still are going to apply this cycle after taking an August MCAT, you NEED to apply in June to at least one school for application-verification purposes. DON'T wait for your scores to be released, though you can certainly wait to add additional schools you want after you get your scores, and since your application is already verified, all schools will be instantly sent your application at that point. :luck:

I don't believe all DO schools require a DO letter. I think that this requirement is school specific.

Yes, you are correct. I have several friends who were accepted to DO schools without a DO letter.

Whoa, no way!

I have to look into this. My adviser said they require the LOR, but then again our state only has one DO school so he might have been thinking of that.

Thanks!

Thank TheSeeker very much, all of your posts were very helpful. I decided to apply to my state school, and a few other schools that I was in bottom 10th percentile of e.g rosalind franklin in chicago (chicago would be a dream), retaking august, and applying to my state DO school

idk how many applicants there are in AZ, but for my state school I was told that even submitting mid-late September was fine because obviously in staters go through a different review process than the masses of OOSers. i.e. you'll be fine with the retake in August.
