how do I know if I should take a year off?

I'm OK in everything..i don't stand out in anything...so I could add on some more ECs and get a research position...and improve my grades since I barely started my major...maybe add on a minor...What should I do?

I think you need to consolidate all your threads into one for starters. You have like 7 different threads about all your different attributes and questions. You should just ake one (how about by editing this one), and state your grades, your mcat, your ec, what year you are, etc...so people can get a better understanding of who you are and then can give you better advice.

I'm currently taking a year off and I'm loving it. I would reccomend it to everyone.

My decision was because of my bad MCAT, so retook and applied the this year.

If feel your stats and EC's are good enough to get you into where you want to go, just apply and see where you get in. Then decide to defer/matriculate when the time comes. If you feel you are not quite up to the level you need to be to get in where you want, find a job/volunteer to beef up your app. Do not just sit on you a$$ at home, cause that will look very bad.

At every interview I have talked about what I am doing right now (at a non-profit organization). I would not reccomend doing research unless you love to do it and want to be a researcher--there's plenty of time for that in med school and later.

Hope this helps. Good luck.
