so, I only applied to two schools. I notified both before my interviews that I would be retaking the MCAT in January. I was accepted to one anyway and really liked it. I just interviewed at my top choice and at the end of the interview they basically told me I did a great job, have many positives, ect. ect., but that I do need to continue to plan on that MCAT retake (I politely said Ok and that I did plan on it). I suppose this means they will put me on hold. the thing is, having another acceptance I no longer plan on retaking the MCAT. I had to sell all of my books just to have the money for a deposit. Do you think I should notify the school before they meet or just see what happens? I don't understand why they didn't put me on pre interview hold if that was the case. The interview really did go very well. My MCAT is actually only one point below their average too, but I also have a bad gpa. However they didn't stress the gpa, only the MCAT. anyway, I'm rambling. Just don't know what to do if they put me on hold waiting for scores that aren't coming. and before you ask, I don't have the money to put down 2k for one school by december, pay for the mcat in january, maybe get accepted to the other, and then put down 2k for them. if I did, I would.

I would say to be safe, retake that MCAT. Go to your library and you'll find at least a dozen MCAT review books and practice exams. You should be proud of your acceptance but if you really want this other school, do as they instructed and take the MCAT and they will see that you followed through. Even if you improve by two points, they will be impressed that you kept your word and retook and also improved. As far as your financial situation goes, all I can say is that there are people out there would love to be a situation where they need to put down a deposit. Some people have the money waiting to put down but have no school to put the money down at. You've already made it this far in this long road. It'll be tough, but ask your parents and somehow gather up the funds to make this happen. Good luck!

Unless you have been accepted to PCOM, you face losing a significant amount of money. All deposits are due by December 14 if you have an acceptance at present. These deposits, as you know are a significant chunk of change ($1000, $1500, $2000). If you retake the MCAT are you able to pay a second deposit and lose your first amount you put down?

I would wait and see if the second school gives you an acceptance. If they do, the only way they can make you take the MCAT again is if they give you a conditional acceptance pending new MCAT scores which would be presented in the way of a contract (this is what they do with people who haven't completed the appropriate pre-reqs). I don't think any school would actually do that since you've already meet their requirements by taking the MCAT once and there's no garauntee that you would score better a second time anyway. Hopefully, they'll have their decision within a month. If you get the acceptance you can always call and ask if you still need to re-take.

If you don't mind going to the school where you were already accepted, I don't think you should bother taking the MCAT again. It's a waste of money and time and really should only be persued by people who are reapplying.

Good luck!

I would study for the exam and plan on taking it. But, like the previous poster, I'd wait until I hear back from the second school before making a final decision. Also, I think you have to let the MCAT people know 2 weeks in advance that you will be withdrawing your seat inorder to get a refund (or partial one). Finally, don't take it unless you are confident you will score higher. Losing a point or two could potential hurt you.

I would tell the school that has you on post-interview hold that you will not being re-taking the MCAT and ask them to make a decision on your file with the info they have.

That's just it, I cannot afford both. Maybe I'll get lucky. Either way, I know I'm lucky. I loved both schools I interviewed at. They are the only two I applied to and did so because I knew I would be happy at both. Thanks everybody for the responses. But doesn't it seem weird that they would say everything else is great but my MCAT? Why didn't they put me on pre interview hold i wonder?

I'm not on hold yet. I just interviewed today. They basically said everything about you today and on paper was great, but I would still plan on retaking the MCAT in January. I am taking this as they are planning on putting me on post interview hold, although not certain. Should I tell them before they make that decision or wait it out? It's just that dang Dec. 14th deadline is fast approaching.
