Hello everyone,

i just graduate high school and im planing to go for a 0+6 pharamcy program.
but i got few questions about the " PharmD " Degree

first, i'd like to know what can i do with my PharmD degree ? other than working in hospitals or retail Pharmacy ?
also im really really intrested in research labs but im not sure if they hire someone with a PharmD ?

second, what the hell is wrong with american pharmacist ?
i've been searching around for some info about being pharmacist,
but all i get is .. "run ! run away before its too late " seriously ?
and i can't tell if its true or not. some say run away and some other says
they are just trying to scare off the new HS grad from applying to Pharmacy school
can someone tell me the truth ?
and don't worry im not american and i will not take a job in USA so please don't lie to me.

and i also have noticed that most pharmacist are talking trash about job market in the
retail pharmacy. what about hospitals pharmacy ?
and the other fields for pharmacy ( that hopefully someone point these fields out for me ) is the job market for those fields also suck ? or is it just lie ?

in my country the pharmacy field is in high demand and it will continue to be in high demand for at least 10-20 years.
but im still intrested in the US pharmacy field because it feel like im looking into the future of pharmacy that going to happen to my country

i hope i get some answers. Thank you all !

Curious....why do you care so much about the job market if you don't plan on staying in the US?

i answered that in my thread.
i live in 3rd world country and here our job market looks like US job market in 80'
when i look at us job market its like im looking into the future of our job market.
im afaird that if its true, it might happen to us in 25-30 years

In 30 years you will be almost 50. You will hopefully have a stable job or at least a good network set up.

Oh and 30 years is a long time and things can change dramatically. I am certain pharmacists who got their degree 30 years ago are quite happy with their decision.

You need to ask people what the job market was like 30 years ago and not now.

i think the job market of 30 years ago was normal
currently the job is good and im expecting it to be good in my country

but i'd still like to know what would happen to pharmacist in such advanced country like US
with all those robots and the mail thing. do you think that will kill the pharmacy career
or will pharmacist find another place to use their skill at ?

This thread has been moved to a more appropriate home in pre-pharmacy. 🙂

but i need answers from people who work in the field. not students 🙁

the most important thing is about the research lab question and i think only the people
who got some experience in the work field can answer me
~~~~~~~~~~
can someone with a PharmD work in research lab ?
and it will be great if someone listed to me the fields that pharmacist can work at.
We try to keep threads in certain forums based on the content. You're asking a pre-pharmacy question, and I assure you practicing pharmacists and students view this forum in addition to the pharmacy forum.
I work with a few PharmD in a pharmaceutical research lab, but I work with A LOT more PhD. The PharmDs that I personally know are teaching sales reps basic immunology and other things. Also a few have PharmD/MBA and work on making an already approved prescription drug to an OTC one.
