I am sending an update letter to my state school that I have already interviewed at, but have not been accepted yet. Aside from updating them on my activities should I tell them that they are my first choice school and should this letter be kind of kiss ass? Any thoughts.

are you trying to write an update letter and a letter of intent combined?

if they are your first choice...would you go there no matter what? since a LOI is pretty much binding.

if this what you want to do you should explain why you feel strongly to the point you feel this school is the one for you. make your reasons clear.

Is a LOI truly binding? What is the law regarding this?

I am just wondering how a LOI is binding? I am accepted at one other school that I really do not want to go to and I have interviewed at a private school that is probably a long shot and I do not know if it is worth the money to go anyway (still waiting on a decision from Georgetown). So, yes as of right now this school is my first choice, but it is slightly possible for me to change my mind.

a letter of intent is not legally binding...

however it has to do with ethics.

a letter of intent states that you will attend that school regardless of your other acceptances if they decide to accept you. if you go back on your word. you basically lied. if the LOI carried any weight in them accepting you, thats pretty messed up to lie to them just to get an acceptance.

that is why most of here call a LOI binding.

people only do this to schools they feel strongly about and know that they will go there without a doubt. you dont seem to be on that page like drj2b is for upenn and doctorkevin is for cornell etc...

I guess you can go with a letter of interest instead which just says you are still interested in the school, but i doubt it has much weight post interview to send a letter of interest.
