I've heard the following: Canadian med schools don't care what you major in, as long as you get top marks.

Is this true? Seems like a lie to me.

I have no clue what to major in. I have to get some kind of Honours Bachelor degree of some sort, but I have no clue what combo. Major + Major? Major + Minor? Hon. Maj. + Minor?

I'm so lost. Enlighten me.

Officially, they only care about your top marks. From what I've seen so far, it's kind of true, especially in science programs. I don't think there's anyone in my class that did non-science stuff though. Then again, I live in Québec, and I'm not even sure people take MCAT here, so that explains why there are no art majors in med school. I'm sure it's different for other provinces though.

And how about the combo of how you want to get an Hon. Bachelor? Is one combo better over the other?

Should I just not combine it and just get a straight out Honours Bachelor without all the Maj + Maj or Maj + Min stuff? If it's all about the marks it should work better because I have more focus, right? Tell me if I'm wrong. I'm such a newbee.

Can't help you here anymore, I don't even know what is maj and min.

Major in what you want, get good grades, and do your prereqs.

it would be impressive to major in biomolecularcalcphysiologicalchemistry

I know nothing about Canadian med schools.. But, I am double majoring in Biochemistry and Math. Biochemistry because I love biology and have been interested in it since high school, and math because when I took my calc classes freshman year I kind of fell in love with the subject. So, in short, go with what you're interested in. Keep in mind that a double major may limit you as far as electives go, so minors might be more flexible. Honors degrees show you are motivated and willing to challenge yourself, double majors, minors, etc, can show you are well-rounded, but when it comes down to it I think good grades in a single major with a good variety of electives can probably look just as good.

i once knew this chick that was a triple major. i wonder what happened to her. i think she was insane.
