I'm expecting to hear back from at least one medical school on the 16th by phone. Is there anything specific I should say if I'm accepted/waitlisted/rejected? Do we need to set down deposits right then if accepted? How do these calls usually go? Regale me with some tales...:naughty:

I would be surprised if they call you unless you're accepted....usually they won't call and say "Hey, you're waitlisted -- congrats!" ...those usually come in emails.

As for a deposit...some schools require them before May 15 but most don't until after. If they do then you'll get a refund if you pull out of the school before May 15th.

These calls were always great but tended to come at the worst times for me LOL. I got one of my most anticipated calls while at an NFL game, and literally as I picked up the phone our team scored a touchdown. Had to bolt up the bleachers while screaming into the phone "Sorry, I'm at a football game!! One second!!' I never got a call for anything but an acceptance, so my understanding is if the phone rings it's a good sign. Usually they congratulate you, you sound super excited, chat a little about how they want to see you there and at second look, and then it ends. Never lasted more than 5 mins for me.

You're usually given a timeline for the deposit, and some schools won't ask for the deposit until May 15.

If you're accepted, be gracious and say thank you, maybe a few words about how you're excited to possibly attend that school or something. You don't need to give them a speech.

You won't be called if you're waitlisted or rejected.

For some reason I just pictured an ad com member spinning a big Price is Right wheel with "Accepted, Waitlisted, Rejected" on it while on the phone.

is the rule the 16th for notification, or the 15th after midnight? or is it case by case for school?

A friend of mine last year was accepted on 10/15 8am via email so I'm hoping it's the 15th. I really can't wait much longer

varies by school. 10/15 is the earliest a decision can go out.

I'm pretty sure the earliest they can let you know is 10/16 eastern time so 10/15 11pm central etc.. Or at least that what I was told in my last interview. We find out tommrow night!!!

again, varies by school.

keep in mind that the AAMC traffic rules are technically recommendations, not hard and fast rules. i know people have gotten accepted on 10/15, so i think the "on vs after" thing is dependent on the school.

Oh, I thought it was after 10/15 for the earliest acceptance, hence 10/16.

It's just an AAMC guideline, not a hard-and-fast rule, so some schools get a little creative with their interpretation of "after". To some, "after" the 15th could mean 1 minute after October 15th starts.

I think some of the confusion results from the schools themselves being confused.

At one of my interviews the school said that unfortunately it cannot release decisions until ON October 15th, due to AAMC "restrictions".

At another interview the school said it cannot release decisions until ON October 16, again per AAMC.

😕

i mean, in the grand scheme of things, it doesn't matter.

If an email from a school says: "check our portal for the status on your decision" does that mean its a wait list or a rejection?

That's what's happened with Georgetown and I knew it wasn't an II bc they weren't forthright.

I know of one school that lets out decisions exactly at midnight on October 14th, essentially right as the clock turns to Oct 15th, so I think that's the earliest I've ever heard decisions being given out.

same thing happened for me with Georgetown. Obvious it's not an II since most schools just do the II via email but I think for your final decision whether you are accepted, wait listed, or rejected I'm pretty sure it says to go check the portal since that's the kind of thing that some people want to be protected by password. For any school.

Damn, that sucks. I'm going to take the rejected until proven accepted standpoint on that when I have to check.

Well, I was waitlisted by email, so I guess I'm gonna go cry now.
