I wanted to ask those of you that have gone through interviews, residents and IMGs.
I would like to ask about USCE for IMGs, meaning for those that could only take a couple externships and/or observerships in US hospitals.
As an IMG I have many times heard of the importance of US clinical experience to secure any residency.
However, lately i keep hearing that USCE is not that important for radiology as radiology does not involve much patient contact.
A radiology resident told that to me
I always felt that radiology PDs would ask if an IMG had any type of USCE although I can understand that it may not be relevant to radiology.
anyone with an input on this?
I still think than USCE is crucial for an IMG to prove that he/she can be functional in a US clinic environment.
That being said, what type of externship could one recommend for one interested in a radiology residency?
I was told by a Radiology chairman that a radiology externship may not be helpful..
and am now hesitating between some type of IM/cardio/pulmonogy and neurology.
I am hesitating between a typical IM/ neurology externship so that i could get a LOR telling ' how good my bedside manners and basic medicine knowledge are' .. or some type of externship involving imaging and medicine, ie: cardio/pulmonology.
could anyone advise me which externship would be more interesting and relevant to my getting IVs for radiology?
thanx
