anyone with experience on this one?

Hi there,
If you are interested in Plastics, you have a variety of things that you can work with. You can work with studies on wound closure, wounding, synthetic skin, development of new suturing materials, anatomical variations and the development of new surgical techniques just to name a few.

Your location is going to be a huge determinant in what kind of research you can do. If you are in the DC area, there is NIH and five medical schools that all have Plastics departments doing research. Howard has an awesome Plastic Surgery chief (Robert Dennis)that does research into keloid formation. He is a past president of the Washington Surgical Society and is great to work with.
UVa has Dave Drake, who has a number of projects going at present along with his colleagues just to name a couple of people.

Make contact with the Plastics Department at your medical school and see if you can get on board with a project. Plastics is a specialty that you have to track early in order to get a good match. These are very, very competitive positions that require good grades and research.

Good luck!
njbmd 🙂
