What do you think about those negative remarks about COMP from its students? I am interested to hear from especially those who is accepted by COMP, and has multiple acceptance. Does it affect your decision to attend COMP?

I am accepted by COMP and a few other schools. Even though COMP is my top choice, I have put deposit at COMP and AZCOM just to buy myself more time. I decline all other schools.

I am interested to hear your comment about COMP. Choosing a medical school is a very important decision.

think about it

Ummm... what comments?

I thought COMP was a great school... It was my #1 choice going into my interviews... and only slid to #2 after experiencing NOVA. If you want to discuss details, please let me know... I've learned a lot about COMP in making my decision...

Amra,

Where have you been? You cannot be in Florida having so much fun to have skipped SDN this long. Even though I do not believe all those negative comments from JOSH2, theghostdo200x and "anonymous student", I like to see what others people think about them. Personally, I think they are all cheap shots at COMP since the posters did not reveal their identities, and substantiate their accusations.

Here's the latest rebuttal from a COMP student whose screen name is teloola " .... I am sorry for all of the negatism that has invaded your site. I can say that it is not a coincidence that all of the lenghty negative talk has been by the same 2 people. There are about 180 students in the class of 2005. If only 2 people are pissed off, then COMP can't be doing so badly...." So you know there are negative comments out there.

I agree with you. COMP is a great school.

Can you tell me why you choose NOVA over COMP?

In answer to the first comment, I too had multiple acceptances, and had narrowed down to AZCOM and COMP. I really don't beleive all of the negative comments about COMP, but I have heard that they are trying to change things. I decided to go to AZCOM mostly because I felt like right now it offered more stability then COMP. I think both are great schools, I just don't want to be part of a changing curriculum.

I just don't want to be part of a changing curriculum ••

I do not mind curriculum change as long as it is for the good of the school and students. I am not sure I like to attend a school that is static and not keeping up with state of the art. But then, it is to each his/her own.

Phil Pumerantz, President of WesternU, embraces changes in his letter to WesternU's class of 2001 "... Letting go of the familiar and trying something new is often unsettling. The usual challenge may not always call for the usual answer. To accomplish the most in our personal and professinal lives, we must fight the temptation to do things as we have always done them. Instead we should have the courage to change, using the wisdom we've learned from our experiences.

.... One thing that should never change is your commitment to treating your patients with caring along with technical and scientific skill....."

COMP is dynamic med school. It will get better and better as it goes.

I was accepted to both azcom and comp-- in my opinion, the ones saying all these negative comments about COMP would say this about ANY school! i chose azcom over comp mostly for the feeling i had there. Both schools are great and will put you where you need to go- ask yourself where did you feel the most comfortable? Where did you think, this is where i can get my medical education?? The class size at AZCOM is smaller- the atmosphere seemed more conducive to my way of learning. I also like how they set up their clinical sites-- the preceptor idea really makes sense when you've seen 3rd years not able to see anything because they are behind a 4th year, interns, and residents. But, I loved COMP- i thought they have a good thing going and really feel that they tried to make me feel comfortable there. Congrats on your acceptances and just remember that this is an internal question- where did you feel best? That is where i would go!

Thanks for your input. I hope you will be happy and successful at AZCOM. Your reasoning of choosing AZCOM makes good sense.

I think that both AZCOM and COMP are great schools. I like AZCOM's curriculum and its students. They are all friendly. They appreciate their school and speak highly of it (unlike some at COMP). I am extremely impressed with COMP also when I look at the residency matching of its graduates. Over 90% of them matched, and only a few has to scramble to find a slot. They are able to obtain residency at some of the most prestigious institutes, and specialty fields. This is contrary to some med schools that do not want to publish its residency matching. I do not know whether it is because many of them did not matched, could not find a slot in the scramble, or were left out in the cold for a year. Any way, when I look closely at other school's match list, versus its student class size, I know COMP is an amazing med school.

I am glad to be in a win-win situation. I think either AZCOM or COMP will be a great choice. Personally, I just cannot overlook at COMP's success stories with respect to residency matching, clinical rotation arrangements etc.

I am just curious, are you a LDS member? If so, where did you go for missionary? I know that COMP has a very active LDS club.

I just don't want to be part of a changing curriculum••

I hate to pop your bubble -- but there is no other type of curriculum...ALL OF THEM ARE IN SOME DEGREE OF FLUX. As rapidly as technology is advancing, to remain "stable" is to fall BADLY behind.

If a school tells you that there curriculum is not evolving or that they are 'perfect', run like hell to a place that can be more honest with you!
