What was the single most annoying thing you hated about being pre-med?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Although I'm only a freshman the competition is insane. The lengths to which people will go is absolutely disgusting. I had a friend who's suitemate turned her alarm clock off so she could miss the Orgo Final... like seriously?
Wow the fudge!? Beat the heck out of her, spit on her....jk don't. Hahhaha

This saddens me. Too bad the school likely would not take any disciplinary action against the roommate. If someone had done that to me, I would search through every school rule/code of conduct to see if there was anything that I could do to have the roommate formally disciplined to hinder the offender's shot at medical school.

Also, did the girl miss the exam? I don't normally agree with seeking revenge, but if she did, I would have to make an exception for the roommate. She would magically find that her laptop's hard drive had been formatted right before the next set of exams or before an important lab report was due the next semester.

I would have. ain't nobody going to mess with my education. There was one time during a physics lab someone try to leave me out of participating in the experiment... I made very clear that nobody was going to mess with my understanding of the experiment and/or the physics concepts. f**k that!

That's so messed up.

I don't understand this mentality. Medical school admissions is not a zero-sum game for people from the same undergrad. Everyone who applies from a single school can be accepted somewhere. You're competing against 50,000 other applicants, not the few dozen or more from your school.

I'm hating all the waiting! I'm not applying until 2015 and the thought of waiting until august 2016 to matriculate IF I get in the first time drives me mad.

I'm nontrad btw so I'll be almost 30 by then.

Wtf? It isn't a competition. Most premeds will mess it up on their own without any help. I never got the whole cutthroat mentality. It isn't like taking out one person in your class even fractionally increases your chances of acceptance.

I am basically future you if future you was a troll and a bit of a jerk and also not you at all. The time flies, it'll be time to apply and then matriculate before you know it. Just enjoy the journey and don't let these days pass you by as you focus on the future with tunnel vision. Now is all you've got, so make the most of it, even if it's not quite where you want to be just yet.

Very wise words Mad Jack. They are much appreciated.

And some of my favorite pre-meds are the ones who, when asked why they want to get into medicine say, "it's good money" . It's rare that someone is actually that idiotic to say such a thing but I have heard it and it always brings a smile to my face.

I don't know, I think the honesty is refreshing 😛

Being asked freshman year, "You want to go to medical school? What school? What do you want to specialize in?" I was just trying to figure out my major at that point.

A decent idea. I don't think I have any connections, though. I was wondering where you've been @3838 ... haven't seen you around the UVA thread in awhile. A belated happy holidays to you.
Aww thanks! Yeah, I haven't really been hanging around the school specific threads as much haha.

I'm still "pre-med" but one of the worst things I hate being about pre-med is that even if you bust your ass for a test, quiz, etc., there are always people smarter and better. Not trying to sound pessimistic or anything but I guess my point is that there is an overwhelming amount of talent. It can really humble you

Yep. Those suckers hahahah

For real? Sorry mate 🙁
Yeah looks like reapplying is in the horizon. Damn I don't how I'm gonna go through that he'll again, holding out the remaining schools pull through and invite me. What do you guys think of my chances with these remaining schools this late in the cycle?:

Performed research, volunteered in hospital, shadowed a doctor, treasurer of student organization, have some academic achievements plus poster presentation, also got some other stuff. PS is not the best but ain't horrible so I sky think it's the lain thing.

Wow I wonder why they haven't called you? How are the LoRs?

You know since their confidential I am not sure, but I did ask professors whom I got along with and felt like they liked me. Let me throw something else to you, even though I already applied I still kept shadowing the doctor I mentioned, but I never got a letter from him because he was busy and I didn't feel like we had gotten along enough for him to really write about me. But I did ask him to write one anyway and he recently finished it and so I was wondering do you think its worth updating those schools with those letters?

I don't know to be honest with you. I'm
In the process of applying and I do feel your pain. I did ask for the letters and they gave them to me. I wonder what he wrote for you? I mean if it is a supportive letter, a very good one then I say why the heck not? But someone else might have a diff opinion.

I asked for 3 LoRs from 2 MDs and a PA. They wrote outstanding ones, I asked them whether or not they were able to provide me with "strong letters" they all said yes. I wonder if you wanna ask them?

anyone else got an opinion on sending in this letter of recommendation.

Wow, that is for real messed up. Disgusting indeed. Anyone that has any business doing that to another individual to engage in such despicable behavior has no business becoming a doctor themselves. 😡

At first, I thought this would be an entertaining thread to read, but this just makes me depressed and I no longer question how all of my physicians are kind of still a hot mess themselves. It's not even over when you're in, there's no options to just be done with med school, you're required to do a residency to practice.

good luck to you all. Working on yourself is a lifelong process that doesn't stop until you die.

I'm not a premed but I think this goes for both premed and predent. Having to pay for flights and hotels for school interviews. I had few interviews and I already spent few grand 🙁. It wouldn't have been so bad if non pre-health people who just worked for companies right after undergrad stopped asking 'they pay for your flight and hotel right?'.

I hate pre-meds. I ****ing hate all of you. EABOD and DIAF. Seacrest MedWonk out.

I think Creighton is pretty much done interviewing. They said something about interviewing until the end of January in one of their emails. 🙁

Omg I know. Interviews get so expensive! Luckily my parents had a ton of milage saved up, but I almost completely drained one of their accounts. I just feel bad for those who don't get in one cycle and have to fork out the cash all over again...

Basically, I think we can all conclude that we will have much better undergrad experiences if we stay away from other pre-meds lol

Nope, I'm with you, but some classes you have to take and that's how the exposure occurs.

Yeahhhh in those classes I buddied up with the engineering students instead of the premeds

Am I like the only one who didn't associate with other pre meds?
I did for a bit, then realized it was hell...staying away from it now. It's hard though in a bio lecture class of 300 students...goodness.

I always had good luck with the Eng majors. Seeing as Mr. Tp13 is a ChemE lol

Am I the only one who liked my group of premeds lol? We were a supportive bunch.

I did it for my own sanity (career changer), not because I disliked them or anything 😀

The thread is about what the most annoying thing you hate about being a premed, you're not going to get a balanced report. If there was a thread about what's so great about being a premed, assuming it isn't being trolled, you'd get a bunch of happy posts (and some from me too).

I've never really been one to make friends with the people in my classes honestly
Despite all the complaining, I've made a few solid friendships in the process, and one makes it all worth it.

definitely agree with you here.
As an engineering major, I tried to avoid (non-engineering) pre-meds in the pre-req classes except the ones I knew. Hanging around the bio/chem pre-meds in pre-reqs was really stressful. Every little thing that went wrong (for example, they couldn't hear what the TA said during lab) became "I won't get into med school!"
I think I stressed out less as an engineering student than I would have being around all the pre-med people.
