What was your first semester GPA?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
At the risk of sounding like a total pre-med gunner. I got a 3.94 with 18 units. I got an A- in the writing class. But I worked really hard in the other classes cuz i kept hearing horror stories of first semester GPA's. Guess it paid off 😀

3.3, 13 credits (though they included Calc and Orgo).

I had a rough transition semester to college. After that I realized I needed to buckle down, and buckle down I did. 🙂

3.63, and this thread is discriminatory towards the quarter system.

👎 Spoken like a gunner.

S/he didn't have to take 20 credits, and it's not the professor's prerogative to give out brownie points and grade boosts for no reason. 89.3 does not round up anyway, sorry.
Serenade was making an oblique reference to something another user stupidly said a while back. I don't remember the thread, but Cole quoted the guy's line in his sig.

Also, 4.0 w/14 credits (just finished first semester.) Take that Cal 1!

3.62

Going into second to last quarter with 3.97

Don't base your entire undergrad performance on one semester, especially
first semester.

First year was a 3.98..... then sophomore year......it TANKED (orgo, physics, genetics, neurobiology, research wtf was i thinking)

4.0

i'm pretty surprised at the person who said they had a 3.6 and are now going into a 3.97 overall ...

I had a 4.0, 3.88, 3.98, 4.0, 3.8 and 1 semester of a 3.74 brought me down to a 3.91 overall

given the circumstances that I had a family member passed away...and that i was .2% off... way to be sensitive.

Oh that's sad to hear, but professors are generally indifferent about those things. My first semester I had a 3.52, which was annoying because I scored a 94.2 or so in my Chem lab and the professor wouldn't knock me up to an A.

Why surprised? I've had all A's ever since.

Wow, how do people have grades this high? I know very few people who make such high grades, to the point that I am almost credulous.

I was just surprised cuz there was no way I could be at a 3.97 from having a semester of a 3.62, but then again I take many credits a semester so it's a big deal if I drop off once. Good job though bouncing back

incredulous?

and it's SDN ... the only ppl who share are ppl who get 4.0/39 MCATs ... others are trolls

I go to a big public school so it's easy to destroy curves even amongst pre-meds .... I have many, many friends with >3.9 GPAs and I don't know anyone who hasn't gotten in somewhere yet that's applied ... maybe it's a small sample but I don't think I'm friends with the brightest kids ...

my first semester I had a 3.6. I have 3.78 now that I just made straight A's .. tomorrow the WORLD! :meanie: teachers of next semester... COME GET SOME!! 😎

I just finished my first semester of coolege and my cGPA is 3.91. I don't have any excuses to offer, but I'm pretty sure I know how to approach a college-level science course now.

3.82. I still have yet to repeat my first semester's performance lol.

4.0.. things are only go down from here...trust me.

I had something like 3.14 my quarter and finished the year with a 3.04. Most schools seem pretty understanding about first year grades though, and there's plenty of time to make that up.

3.97 - took 19 credits that semester, and 6 credits in the summer before school started

that was my best semester, never got anything that high since then

4.0 - hopefully through this semester. depends on how my orgo lab TA was feeling that day.

I did horrible my freshman year (3.0). But I've been making it up with a 4.0 this semester and the semster past. Hopefully I'll continue this trend.

2.95 for the first semester

I had one really crappy professor who made me work extra hard for a class most people get A's in (when other professors teach) and I found out that chem 1 was pretty tough for me.

I didn't get to chose my major either V_V

3.1 then...

a couple more B's before sophomore year (and a drop fail) then...

4.0 until I graduated then...

Graduated Cum Laude with 3.75 (had to work my *** off for it though)

2.5 cGPA

Straight C+'s in Bio, Psych, Calc, & Writing

Guess I underestimated everything...
Keep your head up.

I had a 2.9, took a W in 5 hours worth of Gen Chem 1, finished with 12 hours.

3.45 with 16 credits. I was a sheltered child in high school, so first semester was kind of my "OMG THIS IS WHAT FREEDOM IS LIKE??!?!?" phase.

4.0 with 15 hours. English, Intro Biology, Gen Chem, & Calculus.

Only went downhill from there. 3.77 2nd semester w/ 18 hours. Now 3.4 w/ 20 hours + research Sophomore year. Wtf was I thinking.

Now going back to 15 hours for Spring semester to hopefully pull 4.0's rest of college.

My first quarter gpa was a 3.55 thanks to a lovely B in Spanish that quarter. :/

3.0...now im sophomore sitting at 2.72

i dun goofed but determined to make it up from now on 🙂

3.2 with 15 hrs...3.1 and 3.28 next 2 semesters (stupid government)
Then got around 3.65 next 2 semesters
and a 4.0 the last 4 semesters.

Steady climb, but I don't regret those first few semesters. I enjoyed them and made lasting friends 🙂

3.93 with 17 hours. I continue to keep getting a pesky A- each semester.

What? no sub 2.0

1.75 with only 12 credits. Absolutely no excuse either... I dont know if I was ever sober for that whole semester. I was so irresponsible, and reckless back then. Do not regret it, even though i did not make lasting friends or even lasting memories, but deep down I know i had tons of fun.

3.6ish with 16 credit hours I think, you'll be fine.

Also, learn to accept that the grades you get are the grades you get, professors are never going to give you free points regardless of your situation. You are an adult now and need to learn when you need to ask for help during the semester if you are having difficulties with a family situation, and if it is too much, take a leave. You earn your grades now and no one is going to give you any help.

Your GPA isn't low. I personally had a 4.0 but only took 15 credits.

freshmen 1st sem: 3.9
1st yr, 1st sem PB (and every semester thereafter): 4.0

2.7!!! 4.0 is way overrated. It's not the size of your gpa that matters it's how you use it. Well... I guess size does matter some.

I got 3.4 during the first semester and made the first and the only C+.

However, I just finished undergrad with 3.75 overall and upper level 3.8 and earned Summa Cum Laude.

4.0 with 12 credit hours from community college + 4 AP courses, + high school Spanish, high school computer science (digital logic), and A++ training.

Then my GPA got smoked by a B in a 9 credit hour course. My GPA is now back up, though.

For those who got below 3.3's, etc, that's not a big deal. My gf got a 3.1 first semester and I think a 3.0 two semesters after that and she's still on pace to pull her final GPA up to an 3.75 and she hasn't made a single 4.0 GPA semester so far.

Just realize what you're doing wrong, be ready to put the work in to fix it, and dive in. Don't get distracted by people trying to get you down, supposed friends trying to hold you back, or anything. If others can do it, surely you can. We're all human.

Mine was 3.88, i got a B in my kinesology class because it was at 8am and i could never get up for it.

It's first semester freshman year, do NOT freak out. Just regroup and do better in the future.
