What was your "theme song" while applying to med school? For interviews?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
For interviews: "Suga, Suga" or whatever that song is titled... just played it in my head since I don't have the CD...seriously, it helped me for interviews! At least I know I got in one place, so it can't have been that bad of a choice...though I don't know why it really makes any sense...it's just kind of a cool song, I think...

WANG CHUNG - EVERYBODY GET DOWN TONIGHT

Mine was the Linkin Park song that goes...

"I tried so hard and got so far, but in the end it doesn't even matter...."

So I've been muttering those lyrics to console myself, though it does matter where I go to med-school!!! Hard to be nonchalant about things like that 😉

"The Farther I Go" by Sublime (an awesome cover of the original Mudhoney song by the same title). The chorus:

"The farther I go the further back I get"

. . . can you tell I'm doing well in this process?

AAK

I alternate:

The Smiths "How soon is now"

and

The Pixies "Where is my mind?" (can be heard at the end of Fight Club)

UCLACrewDude-

Did you mean Wang Chung's "Everybody Have Fun Tonight"? 🙂

Marilyn Manson--"User Friendly"

The chorus line pretty much sums everything up:
"I'm not in love but I'm going to **** you 'til somebody better cums along."

My Top Five

1. U2, Elevation ("The goal is elevation...")

2. Coldplay, Clocks ("Tides that I tried to swim against..")

3. Radiohead, There, There (Just cos you feel it, doesn't mean it's there...")

4. Aaliyah, Try Again (Cos if at first you don't succeed...")

5. The Police, When the World is Running Down (You Make the Best of What's Still Around)

Linkin Park-"One Step Closer"

One step closer to the edge and I'm about to break!

hee hee, this is a funny thread. i think my song has ultimately be marley's "could you be loved" -

"Don't let them fool ya,
Or even try to school ya! Oh, no!
We've got a mind of our own,
So go to hell if what you're thinking is not right!"

i don't know how that really relates to the process except i have had some tough interviews for mstp where i've been kind of "tested" by interviewers...

every so often it seems like my theme song should be "you don't know my name" (alicia keys) because i'll walk in and the interviewer hasn't read my file, or confuses me for someone else they're interviewing that day.

I really like this forum ..

Although I am currently in the process of applying, I do have a theme song...Everytime I become discouraged about the MCAT or the schools that I will apply to, two songs come to mind:

1)George Benson's "On Broadway"

There's this wonderful verse that goes: "I know they're dead wrong, I know they are...'cause I can play this here guitar...and I won't quit 'til I'm a star on Broadway..."

2)Gloria Estefan's "If I Could Reach" (sang at the Olympics)
She sings, "If I could reach, higher, just for one moment touch the sky, for one moment of my life...I want to be...stronger.."😛

Another really good song is "The Impossible Dream," sung by Luther Vandross (in one of the more recent versions)

This thread is sweet, I didn't know that everyone else did these things too.

For studying: Til I Collapse, Eminem. This song carried me through many an all nighter.

For the MCAT I actually made a CD with inspirational type stuff on the first half and crazy/exhale/it's over music on the second half to listen to on the ride home. My favorites were definitely the Chariots of Fire Theme, Eye of the Tiger, and The World's Greatest (R. Kelly). The second half had some Jimmy Eat World, some Bon Jovi, and some Jodee Messina (sp?) I'm Alright.

Pre-interviews: Some mellow classical stuff like Canon in D.

OMG - I totally had a "get pumped up to take the MCAT" CD!! I listened as I drove to my site, which was like 20 minutes from my house -

It had "Outstanding" -Gap Band "Optimistic" - Sounds of Blackness "Work It" -Missy Elliot, The Olympic Theme Song and some really loud KORN song....among others. Didn't make much of a difference though....🙄

I just got accepted this past Thursday.

So my song is:

"Go 'Please!' it's your Birthday....we gon' party like it's your birthday...."
-In the Club - Fifty Cent

Hey all, this thread is a lot of fun 🙂

I applied last year with the intent of getting into my current grad school, but despite getting accepted elsewhere, my school showed me no love (not even interview!). This year, I have improved my app and am getting interviews to great schools, so here is my theme song, dedicated to my current grad school:

When you refuse me
You confuse me
What makes you think I'll let you in again?
Think again my friend
Go on misuse me and abuse me
I'll come out stronger in the end

Does it make you sad
To find yourself alone?
Does it make you mad
To find that I have grown?
Bet it hurts so bad
To see the strength that I have shown

When you answer the door, pick up the phone,
You won't find me 'cause I'm not coming home

-Maroon 5, Not coming home

I am sure that more songs will come to mind as the interview season rolls along...

anyone in favor of Haddaway's "What is Love?"

What is love... baby don't hurt me... don't hurt me...

Wow, I thought it was just me and my brother who listen to the Rocky soundtrack. He knows I embarrass easily, so he sings it out loud in public..in front of my friends and strangers!!

For me, my theme songs were:
the Rocky theme song
"Lose Yourself"
that song by DMX "y'all gonna make me lose my mind..."
some G-Unit songs my bro blasts
Bon Jovi: "It's MY life"
Sting: "Desert Rose"

There's more that I can't think of right now, just had a test and I'm on a brain freeze.

Peace!

Love this thread....my top four are

1) Jimmy Eat World--The Middle (it just takes some time, but everything's, everything's gonna be alright....)

2) Jewel--Hands (if I could tell the world just one thing, it would be, we're all ok, and not to worry cause worry is wasteful and useless in times like these)

3) New Radicals--You Only Get What You Give (when the night is fallin, and you cannot find the light, you feel your dreams are dying, hold tight, you've got the music in you, don't let go....)

4) Eminem-Lose Yourself ('nuff said...and it's the only Eminem song I like)

i have a friend that swears by the song from Rocky, eye of the tiger.

So far, one of them has been "All I Need" by Matchbox Twenty

Everywhere someone?s getting over
Everybody cries
And sometimes you can still lose even if you really try
Talking about the dream
Like the dream is over
Talk like that
Won?t get you nowhere
Everybody?s trusting in the heart
Like the heart don?t lie

[chorus]

And that?s all that I need, yeah
Someone else to cling to, yeah
Someone I can lean on
Until I don?t need to
Just stay all through the night
In the morning let me down
Cause that?s all that I need right now

Everywhere someone?s getting over
Everybodys life is someone
People still use other people with a crooked smile
And all around the world there?s a sinking feeling
Out there right now someone?s feeling
Down on themselves and don?t know why
Every night

[chorus]

And that?s all that I need, yeah
Someone else to cling to, yeah
Someone I can lean on
Until I don?t need to
Just stay all through the night, yeah
In the morning let me down
Cause that?s all that I need right now

And life ain?t no beauty show
We don?t know where tomorrow ends
And when we?re sad
It?s kind of a drag

Just stay all through the night
In the morning let me down
Yeah, cause that?s all that I need
Yeah, that?s all that I need
Yeah, that?s all that I need
That?s all that I need right now
Right now

when I was taking a look at my MCAt scores, i had neil young's "cinnamon girl" qeued up, found out my score and then blasted it, that opening rift will get you everytime!

Oh man,
"Livin' on a Prayer" has got to be it.....heh

That's a good one... For some reason, I'm drawing a blank...

How about that one by Whitney Houston.. I think it's One Moment in Time--here are the lyrics:

Whitney Houston - One Moment In Time

Each day I live
I want to be
A day to give
The best of me
I'm only one
But not alone
My finest day is yet unknown

I broke my heart
For every gain
To taste the sweet
I faced the pain
I rise and fall
Yet through it all
This much remains

I want one moment in time
When I'm more than I thought I could be
When all of my dreams
Are a heartbeat away
And the answers are all up to me

Give me one moment in time
When I'm racing with destiny
Then in that one moment of time
I will feel, I will feel eternity

I've lived to be
The very best
I want it all
No time for less

I've laid the plans
Now lay the chance
Here in my hands

Give me one moment in time
When I'm more than I thought I could be
When all of my dreams
Are a heartbeat away
And the answers are all up to me

Give me one moment in time
When I'm racing with destiny
Then in that one moment of time
I will feel, I will feel eternity

You're a winner
For a lifetime
If you seize that
One moment in time
Make it shine

Give me one moment in time
When I'm more than I thought I could be
When all of my dreams
Are a heartbeat away
And the answers are all up to me

Give me one moment in time
When I'm racing with destiny
Then in that one moment of time
I will be, I will be, I will be free

Cool, huh? Only... I don't think we'll be really free. 😀 But hopefully, we'll be happily imprisoned. Which leads me to another song... somebody stop me!

I love this thread.

Right before interviews, I like to recall Will Smith's "Gettin' Jiggy wit it." Makes me smile and relax every time. 🙂

Please Mister Postman - The Beatles

I will be posting the lyrics as it gets closer to finding out if I am in.

Send Me An Angel...an 80's song

Hell yeah!

who remembers the legendary movie RAD?

everytime I hear this song, all I can think of is Cru and the soon to be Rebecca Catsopolis of Full house fame getting down...on BMX bikes...awesome!

or should i say.....rad!

Wow, now I realize why this whole process has been such a drag up to this point - I haven't had theme songs! From here on out:

Interview: Gigolo by Nick Cannon ("I'm a gigolo, making lots of dough . . .")
Rejection: United States of Whatever by Liam Lynch ("And I was like, yeah whatever!")
Acceptance: Whoohoo! by Homer Simpson

Good for rejection: "Smile" by Charlie Chaplin

Smile though your heart is aching
Smile even though it?s breaking
When there are clouds in the sky, you?ll get by
If you smile through your fear and sorrow
Smile and maybe tomorrow
You?ll see the sun come shining through for you

Light up your face with gladness
Hide every trace of sadness
Although a tear may be ever so near
That?s the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what?s the use of crying?
You?ll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just smile

I thought of a new interview song today:

you better work ( cover girl )
work it girl ( give a twirl )
do your thing on the runway

work ( supermodel... )
you better work it, girl ( ...of the world )
wet your lips and make love to the camera

work, turn to the left
work, now turn to the right
work, sashay shante

it don?t matter what you wear
they?re checkin? out your savior faire
and it don?t matter what you do
cause everything looks good on you ...supermodel

you better work ( cover girl )
work it girl ( give a twirl )
do your thing on the runway

work ( supermodel... )
you better work it, girl ( ...of the world )
wet your lips and make love to the camera

work, turn to the left
work, now turn to the right
work, sashay shante

i see your picture everywhere
a million dollar derriere
and when you walked in to the room
you had everybody?s eyes on you ...supermodel

linda=work mama ! naomi=she is fierce ! christy=foxy lady out of sight
cindy=i can feel it ! claudia=sell the garment ! nikki=work the runway, sweetie

i have one thing to say, sashay shante, shante, shante, shante
i have one thing to say, sashay shante, shante, shante, shante

i have one thing to say ...you better work, b*tch !

I would say Faith of the Heart by Rod Stewart (also theme song of Enterprise)

It's been a long road
Getting from there to here
It's been a long time
But my time is finally near
And I can feel a change in the wind right now
Nothing's in my way
And they're not going to hold me down no more
No they're not going to hold me down

{Refrain}
'Cause I've got faith of the heart
I'm going where my heart will take me
I've got faith to believe
I can do anything
I've got strength of the soul
And no one's gonna bend or break me
I can reach any star
I've got faith, I've got faith
Faith of the heart

It's been a long night
Trying to find my way
Been through the darkness
Now I finally have my day
And I will see my dream come alive at last
And I will touch the sky
And they're not going to hold me down no more
And they're not going to change my mind

{Refrain}

I've known a wind so cold, seen the darkest days
But now the winds I feel are only winds of change
I've been though the fire and I've been through the rain
But I'll be fine, oh yeah

{Refrain}

It's been a long road

Mine would be Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody. Hopefully, interviews will come around and change that.

Bitches aint ****

by Dr. Dre

not sure why...

"I wanna be sedated!" The Ramones

Plush by the Stone Temple Pilots
Start Me Up by the Stones (this one definatly pre-interview)

I'm totally agreed with "Please Mr. Postman."

I just wanted to get a sense of any other neurotic people out there...

So I'll say
1)application song: "A New Day" (cheesy, but I was denied last year)

2)interview song: "Lose Yourself" (it worked=6 waitlists...)
😀

Anyone else out there? This thread is more interesting than some of the "affirmative action/what race and identity am I?" threads, so post your med school theme songs!😛

My songs:

1) Hit em up
2) I will survive
3) Eye of the tiger

ride of the valkyries and, yes, occasionally mortal kombat. I am ashamed.

Eminem's "Lose Yourself " is my ultimate, I get pumped up and fear basically nothing by the time I'm through

30 seconds to mars - edge of the earth
