What scores should one be happy with before taking the real deal? Does it mean anything to be consistently above the average uworld score? Is that a pretty good indicator of passing or is the % really important. The reason I ask is because a lot of people on here post that they are in the high 60s and even 70s - i get those scores as anomolies sometimes but really I usually get a few points above the uworld "average". Any ideas?

Hi,

I scored 239/99 on the real thing. I never had good UWorld scores. My cumulative was 59%, and Id be very excited when Id get above 65%. All the way up until I finished it, I would still get occasional scores in the low 50's or high 40's which worried me a lot. I think my last 10 blocks or so I was around a 61-62% average.
My free 150 and NBME scores were higher than what USMLEworld predicted, and turned out to be a much better predictor of what my real score would be.
I definitely learned a lot from Uworld, but in hindsight, I really didnt like the fact that all their questions seemed so hard- it really unnecessarily hurt my confidence a little going into the test.
In summary, do all of Uworld and learn from it- but dont let yourself freak out about your averages. NBMEs are a better predictor.

how about you check out the "Official USMLE Step 1 Experiences Thread" instead of not searching?

usmle world % 74

usmle world exam 1: 252
usmle exam 2: 258

nbme 4: 263
nbme 5: 258

satisfied but not thrilled

Real Deal: 253

67% completed, all random, timed

mid-high 70s on the last 10-15 blocks though

255 on the real deal

UWorld- 70% average first past, random. 241 Real deal

My average right now in Uworld is 68% correct. The first 65% of the question bank was done by systems and the last 15% was done with genetics and biochem and behavioral and public health mixed. Last 20% has been done by all random. On my last 10 random blocks I have been averaging like 66% or so (pretty close to my systems tests).I have done all of Uworld in blocks of 48 and timed. I wonder if my average would be predictive of a good score or do you guys think is inflated? Everyone around here uses it random and timed... Anyone?

71% kaplan, 74% usmleworld, 254? on free nbme test (2 days pre-exam), 257 on real exam.

I was much like Gators up there. cummulative I was around 61 or so. last 8 blocks may have been high 60s low 70s but nothing outstanding. free 150 had me @ 239. ended up with 238.

i only got through 35-40 % of it
my cum was 58%

it started out around 54-55 or so, towards the end regularly getting 63-65%

kaplan 90% complete 60% overall 50-55 started, 60-65 towards the end (with the occasional bomb in the high 40s%)
Free 150 - 83%
nbme 1 - 520/227
uwsa - 222 (clin review corrected 233)
Kaplan full length simulated exam 69 % (228-232 range)

Real - 231/96 Im thrilled, my goal was 230+

I ended up with a cum of around 65% but my last 10-15 blocks or so I was around 70%.

USMLEWorld diagnostic: 244
NBME 5: 236

Real Deal: 248

My Uworld average predicted me at best (i.e. if only considering the last 15 or so random timed 48 tests) about 10-15 points lower than my actual score, BUT
1) I finished UWorld about a week before the exam
2) I spent my last several days spending a lot of time on my weakest, most-memorization-intensive subjects (pharm and micro, which were hitting me fairly hard in UWorld), and going through my UWorld-/Review Book-annotated FA ad nauseum.

NBME 1: 190 (start of studying)
Free 150: 73% (after one week)
NBME 4: 218 (half way)
NBME 6: 220 (complete first pass)
NBME 5: 249 (5 weeks after starting)
UWSA 1: 256 (same day as NBME 5)
UWSA 2: 244 (a few days later)

UWorld avg: 63%

Real deal: 243/99

I refused to believe my last few scores because it seemed like such a large jump, but I guess it was true.

NBME 1: 204 (start of studying)
Free 150: 73%
NBME 6: 227 (15 days before test)
UWorld avg: 63%

Real deal: WAiting

I hope I get something similar to your real score. Since I have similar stats.

My UWorld average when I got done with them was about 69% correct, I ended up with a 236/99. I would say more than worrying about your average, learn as much as you can from the ones you miss, and even with the ones you get right I would look and make sure you know the details well.

NBME 1 (5 weeks out): 340; 188 predicted
NBME 2 (3 weeks out): 470; 216 predicted
NBME 3 (1 week out): 510; 225 predicted

Kaplan, 100% completed, 66% correct, tutor mode
Uworld, mostly completed, last 12 blocks in random, timed mode averaged about 64-65%

Goal: 230
Step 1, 6/24/09: 244/99

Holy crap. Would you like to buy a punctuation mark instead?

Most people only use it for a month or two, and they buy it.

It is already a really fair price if you ask me. So there is really no need to share. I would pay more for the benefits of UWORLD.

The poster should just pay up.

The Clinical Review estimator was 1 point low for me when I used the average of my last 12 blocks. Pretty impressive to me. The cumulative % was off by 18 points.

Deferoxamine, you're a funny bastard. Glad you did well.

USMLE: 255
COMLEX: 657
World: 75

Got a 239 on UWSA1 1 week out and ended up with 73rd percentile (can't remember percent correct) on the UW qbank and 245 on real deal

Got my score recently, 245/99 UWorld -> 70% UWSA 1 -> 236 (4 weeks before) UWSA 2 -> 250 (2 weeks before). Fairly accurate. Clinical Predictor had me at 251 not complaining at all 🙂

Overall 84%. Yes, it was the first time through. My averages towards the beginning of my study month were mostly 70s with a few 60s. By the end of the month I was getting mostly 80s with an occasional 90+. Got a 270 on step 1.

I attribute my good skills with UW to the pathology course at my school, which always had tough 2-3 step questions on exams.
