IMHO I think that your preparation in your coursework has a lot to do with how you score in BIO.
That being said, I used a couple of methods to study:
1) I used a bank of Kaplan Biology subject tests to identify the weak links in my knowledge. After this, I would refer back to...
2) Campell's Biology - this is actually a resource for the test makers and contains basically all of the Bio that you could ever want to know. Once I realized that I needed to learn more about a topic, I would study the chapters.
3) All the while, I was reviewing biology through an audio based program called Exam Krackers MCAT Audio Osmosis. This was made about 5 years ago, but it still contains the basic information regarding biology and served as a great review tool. I would load up my ipod and listen to biology everywhere I went!
Most people who have taken several biology classes can remember a fair amount of material from them - they just need to be refreshed (see above #3). After that, it is more productive in my opinion to identify your weak points and focus on them rather than study everything (see above #1).
Good luck with your studies and with finding a way that works for you! (I got a 24 in bio using the above method). Also, don't forget to load up on those practice tests before the big one!
