I have been given a phenomenal opportunity to interview a doctor and I was hoping to get suggestions for questions that I could ask during our conversation. More simply, what would you ask or what do you want to know from this guy. Let me break down his work a little bit.

Specialty: Hospitalist/Intensivist (admits and cares for people during their hospital stay. No private practice)

Experience: Over 20 years in practice

Location: Treats patients coming from underserved communities

A VERY interesting part of this doctor's story is that when he decided to become a doctor, he was a high school dropout. He got his GED, went to community college, then graduated from UCLA.

The interview is on the 11th of July. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. What do you want to know? What would you ask?

Ask him if he likes the new healthcare reforms?

I plan on asking how the new Obamacare plan will affect his practice as well as the patients that he will treat. Also, to his knowledge, what sector of healthcare workers is this going to impact the most; how and why.

Thanks for the the tip, Much appreciated!

Ask him about the new changes in residency hours and his opinion on it.

Sent from my phone! Blame it on the a-a-autocorrect.

Why doesn't he have a private practice? Does he just like the hospital environment?

1. Does he envision 'hospital medicine' becoming its own residency, similar to what happened with EM? If not, does he believe that a 'Hospitalist' fellowship will become standard?

2. Has his experiences with religion and medicine been mostly positive or negative? How does he respond to his patients' beliefs? And have such beliefs changed how he has practiced medicine on occasion? Should basic, pluralistic religious education be a prerequisite to clinical practice?

1. What factors led to your decision to be a doctor in underserved areas?
2. What are your current goals?
3. Can you teach me how to dougie?

3. Can you teach me how to dougie?

I thought my closeout question was going to be "Dr House or Dr Sheldon Cooper?" but now I clearly have to rethink my strategy. Thanks for the help!

Ask him if he would do it all again. Also derm.

Thanks for all of the advice and suggestions for interview questions. I will notable change the term "Obamacare" to Affordable Healthcare Act, as to not intentionally piss anyone off. I had a good grasp on what I wanted to ask before posting this, but a lot of these suggestions have really helped connect the different subjects that I wanted to touch on.

Keep the questions coming! I appreciate all of your help!

Don't ask him about Romney-care either since it would have already been covered 😛

3. Can you teach me how to dougie?

I talkled to the secretary of the doc i'm interviewing and she actually thinks that he may go through with this! I've sent over numerous YouTube videos for training...If it ends up happening I'll make sure to post the link. Good looking out!

I would ask about how he chose his specialty/why he wanted to be a hospitalist (this is coming from someone who has no idea what specialty they want to do).

Ask him who he looks up to the most.

Ask him if he admires a person who is naturally smart (and he became a doctor) or a person who has had to work his way up to become a doctor? Who does he admire more?

Sorry if the second questions doesn't make sense. I'm very tired right now...lol
