Hey guys,
so I have an interview at LECOM-Erie relatively soon.
And I learned from the forums that there is an early decision/action(?, whatever the term is) or normal decision after the interview that you can choose.
Now, I'm not saying I will get into LECOM 100%. Actually, I feel like I won't get it and I am pending a DO letter. I don't know if he will actually write me one... I don't want to keep bugging him but... I guess I could get it through LECOM as there is a rumor saying they provide you one.
However, I wanted to know what you guys would do if you all were in my shoes.

I want to get into a school NOW or at least by end of this year! I don't really care where I go and LECOM is great enough for me. I want to quit my job, get my wisdom teeth taken out, do some traveling, and help my parents at their store.
However, I have submitted 15+ secondaries and I want to explore a little. I haven't got any other IIs right now because my school committee hasn't sent my letters yet (them f#$*ers). Not that I will get anymore IIs with my stats......

So a question is, do you HAVE to attend LECOM if you choose the early thing?

The main question is, should I choose for early decision/action or do normal and see what other IIs I get?

Choosing Early decision or normal decision won't effect the outcome of your admission, if you choose early, you will just know earlier and while you have to put down a deposit, you are by no means obligated to attend if you choose not to. It's really a matter of deciding if the peace of mind of knowing the admissions decision is worth the deposit. You could still get the decision early and attend other interviews. If you have the extra money, I say go with early decision. That's what I did, and I still went on other interviews. If you choose another school, you'll be out the deposit, but it's up to you whether that peace of mind is worth it.

No, you don't have to attend LECOM if you choose early, but you'll be expected to deposit 1500 if you wish to keep your acceptance. Truthfully said I choose early because LECOM is going to probably be better than half the schools I'll interview at and because spending half a year not knowing whether I am accepted or not is a pain.

In the end it's going to depend on what you feel about the school. I liked LECOM and I can genuinely say that it is a strong mid-tier school and that it beats out most options on my list so for me knowing whether I am accepted or not early will enormously impact my interview plans for the remainder of the year.

Good info on this thread. Thanks. I'm very interested in lecom

If you're 100% fine with LECOM and their rulebook and have the money to save your seat, go for it. Better to know early so you don't stress out and have to worry about other stuff.

Your stats are borderline (slightly below matriculant averages). If I were you, I'd choose early. I know they say it doesn't matter, but choosing early might mean when they make the decision there are more spots to go around.

If LECOM is mid to high on your list, I'd want to know ASAP whether you got in, because even if you pay $1500 and in the end don't go, not only is it a drop in the bucket compared to the cost of medical education, it might save you money from not attending interviews at schools even lower on your list. I know that if I got in to LECOM soon after my interview, it would have saved me ~$2k in interview traveling/hotels at schools that were lower on my list.

I don't care much about their dress code. I guess I can't express myself much but w/e. I'm going naked after 5:30pm when their dress codes don't apply. And I normally do not wear hoodies, so that will not be a prob. Money? coming out of my retirement funds, which will then be -$1500.

They are pass/fall right....?

what is that website with LECOM memes???

Haha.. Few DO schools are P/F. LECOM certainly is not. A, B, C, F.

The rules aren't limited to dress code and no eating/drinking on campus (outside of designated areas), even though those seem to be the things most people have a beef with. If I were you I'd peruse the LECOM student handbook. Become familiar with generally how things work. It's a great school, but you should have a good idea of any school you're about to pay 6-figures to over the next 4 years.

Two things. One it's not a prison as others have said, it's actually a pretty cool place. Two you're not competitive, LECOM could be one of the few places that may offer you an acceptance.

Yeah, its definitely not a prison, no more than any school with mandatory attendance is. They have a very specific way they like to do things, but again its no worse than working at a hospital, etc. Either way, I wouldn't recommend making a decision on (and committing $100-$200k and 4yrs of your life to) a school without knowing how it works.
