I have 2 - 290's. That hurts. What should i do? MY GPA isn't spiffy either, around 2.9 but i have quite a bit of experience in a lab and 2 optometrist (about 40-50 hrs with each). I'm from UW as well (if that matters). I would have to take the computerized OAT, but i'm scared of doing the reading comprehension on the computer...because i can't highlight and I will be scatter brains. Has anyone taken the computerized OAT before? How did they find it? I'm worried about scrolling back and forth, since on the paper one, I could just flip the page in 0.1seconds. And now i would have to copy down the equations and stuff. So please, please, I need some help. Thank you guys.

Have you been rejected with AA of 320 and TS of 330? Most schools I've talked to said that you should have a good chance with anything over 300.

I agree with RLK since my OAT score was only 320 and my GPA was barely 3.0 and I mean BARELY, but I still got accepted at NOVA and UHCO. I think you don't even need to take the OAT again. GOOD LUCK tho...

Well I will be applying in September (or August) and since my GPA isn't that spiffy i wanted to be as competitive as possible. I'm seriously worried since the 30% in applicants scares me! I'm pretty sure it'll be the same this year as well.

I think your OAT scores aren't too bad they are near the median for some of the demographics of schools I looked at. GPA is a bit low, but maybe your extra curriculars are good enough to push you into a slot.

PS: you could just take a bunch of transparencies with you and tape them over the screen 😛 oh sure it might get a bit difficult when you start scrolling but hey no one ever said becoming an optometrist was easy 🙄

duracell, you said that your gpa is low. what do you consider low? since you think your oat score is low i was just wondering if you have a 3.5 or something and consider that to be low.

I think your OAT score is safe. As long as you have good bio grades on your transcript I think that will make up for your 290 in that section. You should focus on your E.C. activities, and maybe shadow more doctors in several modes of practice. good luck~

My first year bios, (some pre-reqs like calc and gen. bio and gen. chem) were not that good. I have improved every year, and I hope they see my improvement.

Dont worry, you'll be fine as long as you dont want to go to waterloo. I'm from canada and their standards are pretty high. Check out the American schools on the east coast, and make sure your application essay is top notch and your references are killer. You'll be fine. Good luck

Well i applied to waterloo, since i go to waterloo, and yea, I don't think I got in. Obviously with a 2.9 i wasn't expecting much. I just have to increase my GPA now and hopefully get into a US school of my choice.
