Originally when I began college I was an architecture major. I didn't like it after the first year so I went to a local community college to figure out what the heck I was doing, for a lot less money. I knew I wanted to do something in science so I took all the general courses (Bio 1 & 2, gen chem 1& 2). I didn't do so hot in chemistry (I got two C's) because I didn't really care at the time. I have now transferred back to my original four year university and I am declared a pre-med Biology major. I have completed Ochem 1&2 with A's.

So my question is do I retake general chemistry at the university I am at? Would that look better than receiving just that C?

Depends. What is your cum GPA and sci GPA with the C's? How have you done in the rest of your pre-reqs? If your numbers as they stand now are competative, then I would not sweat it. Getting As in O chem at a 4 year university will answer any questions as to your ability to handle tougher courses. For good measure I would take some upper level science courses and work to get A's in them to demonstrate your capability. I would also be prepared to explain the low grades in an addendum to your application.

If your numbers are low, then you might want to consider retaking because some med schools will substitute courses retaken (DO particularly).

My Cum GPA is a 3.5 and my science GPA is a 3.46. Also I have yet to take physics so I will be able to pull of my science GPA with that and my upperlevel Bio courses. I've also considered minoring in Math to add some A's to my science GPA. thoughts?

You're in a real good spot, so don't worry. You should retake the gen chem classes, although I think they take the average of the two grades. Still, if you get an A then the med schools will see that you are capable and competent. Two A's in ochem already shows that, but make sure you crush the mcat (30+) and you'll get in no problem (assuming your EC's are there).

Do not retake those gen. chem. classes. It's a waste of your time. If you aced organic, it's obvious that you were just putzing around in earlier courses. If you want some further proof of your chemistry abilities, take another mid- or upper-level course or two. Really, though, you should be fine without any extras. Your GPA is solid and will probably go up, it sounds like. Don't worry about a couple C's early on.
