Just curious to what people's ambitions are in medical school or going into medical school about their profession and what they want kind of doctor they want to be. I'm sure people's perception of what they really want will change with time and exposure but I want to see where people stand now on where they wanna' be in the future.

EDIT: Primary Care being IM/FM/Peds/OB/EM

I want to be a corgi... Seriously, who knows, I'm pretty sure the specialty chooses you and not the other way around.

Primary Care = Speciialties... maybe you meant "Family Medicine?"

I cant answer this poll for a few reasons.

1) what is your definition of "primary care?" Because there's no good single definition. Is it just FM? FM/IM/Peds? FM/IM/Peds/OB? Or is it FM/IM/Peds/OB/Psych/EM?
2) Does it include people who want to subspecialize?
3) Does it include "combinations" of the above? (meds/Peds, med/psych, IM/EM?)

Given that my interests fall under the above categories, I can't really pick an answer.

True. There's a lot of things I could have added to the poll. My apologies about the confusion. To answer your questions, this is what I was going for.

1) Primary care being primarily FM/IM/Peds/OB/Psych/EM
2) For now, just one of the two. You have to go into either or before you move onto a fellowship or subspeciality (I'm assuming).
3) Nope

Why wouldn't you count combination reaidencies? Wouldn't that just make the practitioner more general?

Just to let you know it's pretty much impossible to know if you're going to like something until you actually do it, and it is often to late to change your mind once you realize you made the wrong choice.

I'll settle for any residency that leads me to being a renowned physician but only to lose my hands in a car crash but in turn end up being the most powerful sorcerer in the galaxy and protector of earth

oh, at first I was like what is this kid babbling about then my genius brain stroked itself and the impulses generated a thought - Dr. strange.

too bad, I just started undergrad and already have decided to become a neurologist with a focus in cardiology.

JS, EM is not a primary care field..... at low income neighborhoods, a lot of people will use the ED as if it was a primary care source, but in theory it isn't supposed to be.

Thread hijack, congrats on ACOM hope to see you next year my friend.

I'm interested in family medicine, immunology (through internal medicine.. so primary care originally), and general surgery.

So when you do the final tally, put 2/3 of my vote in primary care and 1/3 in specialty.
