Lower benefits? (health insurance, 401k)
Less flexible schedule?
Less time off? Vacation?
Job stability?

Which of these would you compromise for a "better" job. Better could mean a higher position, salary increase, or more control of how the business runs. Feel free to prioritize 🙂
It would be interesting to see what people value the most.

I think job stability is too important to give up. Why would I want a better job if keeping it is in jeopardy?

Everything else depends on how "better" the job is.

I sacrificed schedule, benefits, and 2/3 of my salary to go back to residency. I still refer to the money CVS paid me as "blood money." That job made me miserable, and the constant threat of discipline or termination didn't give me the impression of very much stability.

Now we are underpaid and overworked, but I come home happy and look forward to the next day. I also don't flinch every time my phone rings on off days.
I know that I am setting myself for potentially having trouble finding a job, but that will be 2015, so for now I am happy with my decision.

^^ sounds like you are going back and doing a residency?

Not too many of my friends stayed in retail after 5 years. Sooner or later you will crack.

Maybe that is how it is designed. Replace you with new graduates who are willing to work for less and for no benefits.

Yes, Finishing my PGY1 and committed to a PGY2
I didn't hate everything about retail, and I have friends that enjoy it, but it wasn't for me. I will never be sure if I would have been happy changing companies, or if I had to leave retail.
