What would be a good third language to learn for medical profession? I know that Spanish is very useful, but after taking Spanish for a few years, I just couldn't stand it anymore.

My first language was Swedish, English being my second. I was thinking of learning German, but I'm not sure how useful it would be if I want to practice medicine in the US. Any tips from personal experience would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I go to med school in New York, so take this with a grain of salt for elsewhere, but I have found the most useful second languages are Spanish, Mandarin Chinese, Russian, and Hebrew.

In Virginia Spanish was the only useful second language to know. We saw patients who spoke a huge range of languages, but each individual language appeared only a few times per year (except Spanish, which appeared daily on many services). In other words, power through and learn Spanish.
