Hello, everyone!

I'm an undergrad and will transfer from a junior college to a 4-year in the Fall. With my Psych major, I have to minor. I'm having trouble deciding which minor will benefit me as an OT in the field and stand out during the application process.

My question is: as an OT or a OT student, what minor would you have chosen to benefit you now?

Thank you for the feedback! Anything is welcome!

Hello there, fellow Psych major! I would see if there is some sort of science minor. With having to take certain science prerequisites (depending on what school you look into) it might help you get a jump.

If I had to take one just for fun though, I'd look at some sort of creative minor like art or music. Always helps to be creative 🙂

I was a kinesiology major and psychology minor! So since you are a psych major maybe you could do a kines minor? I would try something science related. The program at my school sets up future OT and PT students as Kinesiology majors so it's definitely a good subjct area, very relevant to the field.

I'm currently enrolled in an OTD program and our majors and minors are all over the place. There's quite a few science-based, although as mentioned above, a dance or art-based minor might help you more than you think. From what I understand, they don't place too much weight on them, so don't stress 🙂

I have a BFA in Musical Theatre (so, acting, singing, and dancing), and I still got into OT school - and surprisingly, there are things I learned in my undergrad that are actually applicable. Definitely a vote for something "creative"!

Thank you so much for the feedback! I've been stressing about a minor, but a lot of people have told me it's not something I need to really focus too much on!

If you don't mind me asking, what OTD program are you in?

I had an interview there and I loved it. Unfortunately I didn't get in. It seemed like a great program 🙂
