Just to give some of us an idea of what's going on before we're supposed to know what's going on....

When you call a school to check the status of your application, and they say a letter was sent to you, what's been your experience? was the letter an invitation to interview or a rejection.
Some people think that unless they say on the phone "an interview invite letter has been sent to you," that it's bad news. The lady at Temple told me "you should be getting something soon, the computer says the committee reviewed your application Dec 31." I'm expecting a rejection. what do you guys think?

How long are you waiting to call the admissions offices? Have you received a notice that your application was complete and believe that you have been waiting too long?

I would assume that the letter from Temple is an interview invite, especially if you have received it soon after your file was complete.

Unfortunately, I don't have any experience with this yet, as I am still waiting for interview offers.

See MCP Hahnemann thread earlier today for similar question but to recap, I think that (sorry to be a downer) it is likely a rejection. I called two schools, Tulane and NYMC, to check on my application status and was told by secretaries that an "interview invitation" was sent or going to be sent. I don't see why a school would not tell you if the letter was an interview notice. However final accept/reject decisions are usually not supposed to be cpommunicated by phone. In fact at many of my interviews, we were told NOT to call a particular school for such info, THEY would contact us with a letter. On the bright side, it's also possible that whoever spoke to you didn't have complete access to your file and didn't know what type of correspondence was sent. If you really wanted to know, why didn't you ask the Temple secretary? I don't think they could be too mad if you politely asked what type of correspondence was sent. You seem like a direct enough kind of guy caveman 🙂 ....

yeah, i saw the MCP thread and that's why i started this one. i agree that unless they say it's an invitation, that its probably bad news..and they really aren't supposed to discuss that kind of thing on the phone. I suppose the secretary's tone of voice is also a good indicator. she did not sound excited or enthusiastic. thus I am skewered for Temple. I'll let you fellas know when i get the letter in a few days. my only ray of hope is that the decision was just made on monday (dec 31) so maybe the result wasn't on the computer yet. actually that makes no sense. woe is me....

Lecular, thank God almighty, you were right. The letter from Temple came today and it's an invitation. the envelope was thin, so as i opened it, I was thinking "it better be a well-written rejection..." but to my surprise, it's an invitation.
I guess, to answer the question that this topic aimed to answer...there's no way to tell from the secretary's tone of voice or how she says what she says to you, whether the news is good or bad. anyway, looks like i won't have to fill out that St. George's application just yet.

Hey Caveman. Congrats on the invite!

Hey AC:

Congratulations and good luck with the interview! Keep faith, in the end life always work out for the better 🙂

This thread was a great story Caveman. Thought provoking lead-in, then a period of despair and acquiescence, only to be followed by happy resolution. This was a excellent fu#$in' thread!
