My little brother applied to 10 medical schools. He had a BS in biology, he had very good score on the MCAT, and he did a lot of shadowing and had a 3.8GPA. Out of 10 only two schools called him for interviews. The school that he chose to interview with told him to do some more shadowing and also go volunteer or work at a hospital during the year and reapply again the following year. He too didn't feel like waiting and ended up going to Dental school. The thing is, from what I understand, no one gets in to the good schools the first time around. That is, no one who knows anyone. I guess if you are the son or daughter of a well respected doctor or surgeon that makes plenty of donations to the school you won't have any problems getting in. Anyway he loves dentistry and is planning on doing a residency in oral surgery.
