Hey guys,

IMG here from the UK. Will be spending 4 months starting in April for electives on the East Coast in the States (Boston/NYC).

Will be doing my Step 2 CK and CS.

Since I'm coming from England, want to make sure I don't mess up CS, since I know its 'easy' and therefore can't afford to fail it.

Any suggestions on weekend courses? I want to take a crash course over a weekend to familiarize myself with stations, and how the exam is structured. So far I could only find:

http://www.step2csreview.com/

Any replies appreciated, thanks!

even if you were trained in england reading first aid cs and finding a practice partner should be adequate.
if you still want a review course http://www.c3ny.org/ is pretty good and its in the NY area

Thx for the quick reply,

well I'm a 4th year medical student here in England. I hear British OSCEs are much tougher than Step 2 CS...but my only concern is that I haven't done Obs/gyn or Peds yet....(Doing that in my final/5th year)...so I'll be going into CS blind on those 2 rotations.

Hence me considering taking a course...

whats you guys think? Can I learn Step 2 CS Obs/gyn + Peds straight from FA?

I'll be studying for CK at same time as well

Without a doubt, you can. Peds is more or less getting a thorough history and making a reasonable differential (read up on DDX listed for each of conditions in CS). You should be okay from a OB perspective too.

Seriously eh? That easy...cool thx.

So I'm guessing for books...just First Aid...or anything else you recommend?

cheers,

yes first aid and just for the sake of completeness you can get usmleword cs for a month, the key is timing which is why you need someone to practice on to get your timing down

if you're interested in taking an actual CS course, and you can afford it, i suggest the kaplan course in san jose, california. however, check to see if there are still openings for the april 2011 session, because they will be shutting down after that session and moving to pasadena. the word is that even though it will be the same lead instructor, it won't be the same teaching staff and sp's, who do a lot of the more personalized one-on-one coaching.
