Hi,

Does anyone know the annual income range someone can expect while doing an infectious disease fellowship? I have no clue how fellowship pay works. After a 3 year internal med residency, if you do an infectious disease fellowhship are you just paid the salary of a PGY-IV?

Any info would be great!

Thanks!

you might have better luck if you post in the residency forum

Fellows in all specialties are paid as PGY-IV's and above (ie ~50K). That's one reason why it's tough to go back to a fellowship after being an attending for a few years, it's tough to go from a ~120K salary to 50K. There are more moonlighting opportunities as a fellow being board certified in your primary specialty (eg medicine, surgery, etc), but fellows oftentimes have less time then residents these days to take advantage of those moonlighting opportunities because they work harder then a lot of residents during some of their rotations.
