What's the first thing you plan on doing if you get accepted?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
thank everyone I know for their support and invite them to shotgun some beers with me!

Probably cry and fret over who to call first... my boyfriend and parents are each a phone call away, but I'll have good friends in my dorm who are a quick walk away (10, 20 seconds).

I'm planning to call my home phone... my brother will probably answer. I'm going to tell him to get my mom and dad on speakerphone and I will tell them 🙂

I can't wait to update on what actually happens! :luck: I hope I'll have a story to tell this cycle.

say thank you, hang up the phone, and get back to doing whatever it was I was doing before.

and then prepare for more pain in the ass interviews.

Wish this thread was made before I was accepted. But, in place of that, I'm taking the MCAT on my 21st birthday this January. I think we all know what I'll be doing after 😛

I've always wondered if tufts made you jump through extra hoops for early assurance since they have so little information to go on....as a sophomore applicant, did you have to do something special ECwise during your freshman year?

1. Go onto mdapplicants.com and click "Accepted."

This is really lame I guess, but updating mdapps has been the first thing I've done so far with interview invites and will be probably be the first thing for acceptances too... It just doesn't sink in for me until that school moves from the "received/submitted secondary" column to "invited for interview"--sooo satisfying. Changing my first school to "accepted" will be a glorious moment (if it happens).

After that, of course, I'm calling everyone I know and celebrating in typical fashion.

great thread....probably irresponsible amounts of unprotected sex. hahahah

Well I will probably find a new job..something frivolous like a coffee shop or bookstore to save some $$ for medical school living expenses.

Then take a trip to Belgium w/ my long suffering bf (he has hated my mood swings during the application process) for the finer things in life: dark beer, trappist monks who make dark beer, chocolate covered waffles, old architecture.

Also go to Cali w/ my sis for her 18th birthday for surf lessons.

I will book a flight to London so my brother and I can tour Europe. He's applying this year too, and if I got in, he would definitely be in. Then we'd take each other to all the place we'd visited separately during our respective semesters abroad. Oh, and I'd probably need to buy new pants because I would have soiled the only pair I own when I got the acceptance notice.

lol the sad part is this is true. I went to this fair where they had fried ice cream...

Fried ice cream is good. Fried Oreos are better. I've seen fried macaroni and cheese (with bacon!), but haven't tried it. ...there's something to do when I get accepted! Note: I don't weigh 400 pounds.

As for what I'll do: I'll probably update MDApps (which is sad), go to the gym, go for a jog - anything to get the pent up energy out. Shove it in my mom's face, who hasn't really thought I could get in the last few years.

good thread. I'll probably whip my letter or phone (whichever was the bearer of the news) at the ground like im spiking a football and then do my victory dance.

Then, I will call my parents, spike my phone and do my victory dance.

Then, my friends, and the dance.

Then, I will go to the bar, drink... and of course, do my victory dance.

Tell my parents, brother, and other people who think that I should just get married and be happy "TO YOUR FACE SUCKERS"~ lol I am terrible*

1) Scan the acceptance letter into my computer

2) Print out said letter enlarged, using iron-on paper

3) Iron said enlarged letter on white t-shirt

4) Don said shirt

5) Run around screaming maniacally, with copious pelvic thrusts and fists thrown into the air.

6) Sex. Lots of sex. With girls.

the victory dance, in case you were wondering, should look like an epileptic ****** in the middle of a grand mal seizure.

i will go for a delicious dinner at my favorite restaurant and order the most expensive thing on the menu (only because its my fave) AND dessert. There will also be alcohol involved. lots and lots of alcohol. if i get accepted on a tuesday night. don't care. i will be getting plastered in celebration. haha
:hardy:

Jump up and down with joy. Then try to figure out how I'm going to spend my summer. Probably travel.

Ooh, this sounds good. I loooove good food and wine...

There will be a tiger woods fist pump, a chest bump for the bro (also applyng) and them Bushills, Tullamore Dew, and Jameson will flow like water. Probably a week long bender, in which everyone I meet while inebriated will be asked if they got into med school this year, and if so I will enlist them into the bender. I love collaboration

I have a bottle of Château Margaux 1998 given to me by a millionaire israeli. I'll drink that with my parents and then smoke the Arturo Fuente OpusX Limited Edition given to me by the same Israeli. (I don't normally smoke...but if I do then I might as well make it a 20 dollar+ cigar.

Finally say "screw this" and skip a class and only half-ass the rest of my senior year.

Sit down in a chair and just listen and watch people complain about how bad this world is and how everyone hates their life and watch a lot of college graduates try to decide what to do with their life now that graduation is one month away.

I will chuckle to myself thinking about the coma patient Im going to have sex with once I become a doctor.

After that I will probably go out and drive over a person with my car and have sex with them if they are dead.

Sadly, I too will probably change my MDApps first... and then call just about everyone I know.

But after that... going to a sweet steakhouse and having a huge steak (with a side of steak). And drinking a bottle of A1 Sauce with my steaks because it is amazing... Most importantly cracking open that bottle of wine that I got in the Rhine Valley a few years back that I've been saving.

Hopefully not drinking so much that I forgot what just happened.
And then letting the apathy of senior year seep deep within my soul.

LMAO I seriously laughed out loud at this. Awesome.

Drink myself into a happy coma for a couple days. 😀

The only extra hoop was that I was applying as a sophomore. I had to get LORs plus fill out an application, write a PS, do interviews, etc like the normal process. The main benefit from this is that my MCAT is not a factor. But, aside from my grades they do look at what else you've been doing. What I have done so far:

Lab assistant at my university
EMT
Pre-Health Society president
DJ and music director for campus radio station
Hillel
Student intern at the NIH this summer

I'm definitely going to Tufts, even though the contract is non-binding, but it isn't stopping me from doing other activities. This semester I'm going to be a lab TA for general chemistry and possibly a tutor for orgo. I'm the kind of person who gets bored really easily if I'm not busy 😛

I've promised to take out my tongue ring if I get accepted.

Wow, that got a response even quicker than I expected.

Buying an eighth of mushrooms

Going out to the woods w/ a few buddies

And trippin' balls

If it's in a letter, call the admissions office to make sure it's correct. If it's a phone call, hang up, and then call back to make sure it's correct.

If I get accepted, I feel like I'll find out at work, so then I'll have to excuse myself, go outside and run around squealing. Then I'll probably call my parents, pull them out of seeing patients (they'll be so annoyed) and then tell them I got into medical school! Then I'll pass out.

WHEN I get accepted, I will:

**Scream for joy
**Do the Happy Dance
**Call everyone I know
**Be wearing a huge grin for so long my face will hurt
**Have a celebratory dinner at an expensive restaurant (or more likely - McDonalds due to lack of $$$ or even $)
**Since I don't drink, I will of course leave off the "getting falling-down drunk" that seems to be, according to this thread, de rigeur

What I WISH I could do, but can't:

**Quit my job immediately
**Travel to England, Scotland, and Ireland - heck, I'll be lucky if I can afford to drive the 4 1/2 hours from here to Dallas to visit family.

I would simply say "SHAZAM" like I always do when things go my way. Except...I will say it out loud this time. 🙂

I was about to say "Wow! We have the same response when things go well," but then realized that you say "SHAzam." I say "KAzam," out of respect for Shaquille O'Neal's classic. Damn, that movie was awesome.

Nice. That was one of my favorites as a child, but if you check IMDB you will realize how easily pleased I was as a child. 🙂

If my reaction to getting into college is any guide, first I'll cry for 20 minutes. Seriously, I cry when I'm really happy. Then I will call all family members plus my best friends. The conversations will all go like this:

Me: Hi
Family Member: Hello
Me: silence (I'll probably still be crying at this point)
Family Member: Are you okay?
Me: I GOT INTO MEDICAL SCHOOL!
Family Member: Good for you.
Me: I GOT INTO MEDICAL SCHOOL!
Family Member: Why don't you call someone else?

Seriously, when I got into UVA I couldn't stop crying and speak clearly. My mother thought I had been in a car accident.

Sheesh! I don't even want to think about how OLD that makes me feel !😱

I'd love to drink some Cristal but I'm sure the application process will leave me broke. So... that being said, I'll either go out with friends from school or friends from home and celebrate, as best as I can, on my low, low budget.

Calling everyone in my phone book, whether I actually still talk to them or not, and screaming "IJUSTGOTINTOMEDSCHOOL!!!!!". Then send emails out to everyone and go find some beer. Copius amounts of beer.

I'm not applying this cycle. Am I still allowed to answer?

Oh man, I have been planning this for years....

1) Start crying, while laughing at the same time.
2) Take a picture of myself doing this, with the acceptance letter if there is one.
3) Post said picture on facebook.
3.5) Call my parents and my friends. Maybe call this one girl that was really mean to me, and tell her just for spite, haha.
4) Go out for my very first (!) drink that night, I've already decided the first drink should be a Bacardi Breezer or Silver or whatever.
5) Probably have some more drinks.
6) Get up the next day and realize that I don't have to worry about grades any more, do some more crying.
7) Glow in the thought of it.
8) Revel in my security while all the other hippies at my school start realizing that their 4-year party is over and they have no future prospects, haha.

😀

You'll definitely feel like crying if you actually do steps 4 and 5.
