What's the process for switching specialty as a resident?

Do you have to apply through ERAS and go to interviews again? Or is it a less tedious process? Also, I've heard it's easier to transfer to another specialty if it's at the same hospital, how so?

If you want to pick up a spot in a different residency at your hospital talk to the program director of that residency. It’s only easier if they have a spot and want you.
