good cheap efficiency apartments available for med students near campus or what?

No, they're not cheap!

If you have a car, definitely live off-campus. There are plenty of cheaper places <10min away. I work at Emory and live in an apartment with my GF for only $800/mo (that's good for ATL!). It's in a good neighborhood and I can walk to several bars, coffee shops, and restaurants.

Emory housing is pretty nice for on-campus, but definitely expensive.

i go to emory undergrad right now and clairmont campus is just as inexpensive as anywhere else once you consider water, electricity, cable/internet, and phone charges. it just opened last year, theres a brand new student activities center and olympic pool right next to the HUGE apartment complex, covered gated parking, and a variety of room combinations (single, double, quad, etc).

i live off-campus right across the street from clairmont campus and i pay ~800 per month with another ~200 with bills (but that's the total for my roommate and i, so i end up only paying 500 a month total). on-campus living is about the same, like i said. im not sure how it compares with other cities but for the price it is a great deal

I stand corrected. My bad!

I haven't been in them, so I don't know how big they are. You can find 1Br for 400-600 pretty easy, though.

BTW, I have hi-speed internet and we split about $100 of utils between the 2 of us. Just make sure you don't have natural gas and utils are cheap. I think nat gas prices are the highest in Atlanta compared to the rest of the U.S. because of deregulation.

Both off-campus and on-campus housing at Emory is pretty good. On campus you have the brand new Clairmont Apts with all those ammineties previously mentioned plus shuttle service(this is a big plus if you live off campus as traffic around Emory sucks). Off campus I lived over the summer behind one of the freshmen dorms(Turman) for about 600 w/ a couple of roommates, but I have other friends who can live off campus for about 800 a month sharing with only one other rooomate- just make sure you don't pick an apartment complex populated by Emory undergrads as you will be ripped off (and more than likely annoyed by them).

I'm in Carlyle Lake btw - they're older apartments (10-12 years old i think) but there's plenty of parking, it's a pretty quiet complex despite the number of undergrads, water is free, and you get a washer and drier (not all apt complexes offer that). it's about as good of a deal as you'll find offcampus unless you want to go WAY downscale 🙂

Carlyle lake is absolutely the way to go if you want to live off campus and stay very close by. You can still take the University Apartments shuttle to school, and the complex is pretty safe, not that expensive, and really nice for how much it costs. Dont look at highland lake, you're basically paying several hundred more dollars for a security gate in an almost zero crime neighborhood and a gym that carlyle residents can use anyways.

if you wanted to live a little further off campus, getting to emory in the morning from the highlands/ponce-ish/candler park areas is a pretty quick drive (did it for 18 months everyday). I lived in Inman Park right between Little 5 and Freedom Parkway just east of Ponce de Leon and absolutely LOVED that area. The rent wasnt bad, it only took me ~10 minutes to drive to work/school, the area was ultra laid back, there were so many quality bars and restaurants, and its one of Atlanta's few "walkable" neighborhoods. Word of warning, while its a fun place to live getting from buckhead to emory can be a nightmare at times, cause you'll have to pass by the cheshire/lavista crossing at some point (did it for 12 months).

avoid park at briarcliff like the plague. Its really cheap, but coming eastbound on briarcliff at 8 am in atlanta is the last road on earth you want to be driving on, and the complex tends to have some shady characters living in it.

I never lived in the new UA but I hear they're a nice deal too 🙂
