I applied to NYU, BU, USC, UNE and MOSDOH this past cycle. I know my application was far from perfect and it was late, but none of them even gave me an interview. However, I was able to get interviews at schools that are considered to be more competitive (including OOS public schools).

Any one have any possible ideas? I'm just really confused.

This may or may not be your case: Some schools won't interview candidates who they believe to be very (or overly-) qualified and will likely choose other programs. I have several extremely qualified friends who called to follow up with schools they hadn't heard from, and they were told something along the lines of, "given your application, we didn't think we would rank highly on your list. If you are still interested in an interview, call our office and we would love to meet you in person". It's smart: they don't want to risk a spot for someone who will likely choose a cheaper or "more competitive" program.

The thing is I'm not that spectacular of a candidate and when I called these schools suggested I improve my sGPA or retake the DAT....even though my stats were either around or well above their averages.

Maybe it's because SOOO many people apply to those schools (NYU, BU, USC) so your app just fell through the cracks? Sorta like it wasn't super competitive but not horrible either... I feel like the 'average' applicants just start accumulating in this huge pile they don't reject but aren't jumping at the chance to interview you. :lame:

If you don't mind me asking, how late did you submit your application? This makes me nervous considering NYU is and has always been my number one choice.

Went out mid-October? So most didn't see it until almost November. Is that right?
