If u r in this forum, that must mean that u r studying to become a dentist.
I am also one of those students.
I know that it's too early to give up, but I also fear that I may not be good enough to become a dentist.

I believe there is nothing to lose to think about this back up plan thingE.

I don't know about other dental schools, but the one in my state, VCU provides a program to give those ppl a second chance. For example, if u did bad on either DAT or have low GPA, they still let u enter the school and observe ur grade for a year. If it's B or higher, they treat u just like any other dental school students.

Well....that's what i've heard, so I can't guarantee that that's how it works.

Anyway, my back up plan is either to take that program and never think about the other direction, or become a part time BIO teacher( 😴 ). My major is biology by the way. If i become a bio teacher, and take the DAT again or again or again, then someday, I will have a chance I guess... and who knows, maybe i like to become a bio teacher... 😱

I want to know what u guys have in mind for a back up plan.

With the grades you are posting, you shouldn't even be considering a "backup plan" at this time. Start worring about a backup plan when you have already applied and still have not got in. Stop selling yourself short, you already have a great head start with a 3.839 GPA and 4.0 Science GPA.

If dentistry doesn't end up working out I guess I could go to med school. 😀

If you truly, truly wish to become a dentist, then you should have only one backup plan if you do not get in the first time around:

Make yourself a better applicant, and then apply again!

If you don't get in and you just throw up your hands and say, "Well, I tried my best, but this is the end of the road in terms of me ever achieving my dream," then perhaps dentistry isn't what you wanted in the first place.

Try and try again until you get what you want! Don't ever settle!

Great advice Mrxle3. Perfectly said.

I'm living my backup plan right now... computer programmer.

Dentistry is my only plan. If I don't get in, then I'm going to study 6 months straight for the DAT and have awesome scores and get in for the 2008 cycle.

the great joonkim!!

Something that will earn you a paycheck and give job security (meaning you are skilled labor) is a good "back up plan". If I do not get in to d-school on my first try I will become one of those evil beancounter people until I get in to d-school, but I plan on getting in on my first try so hopefully this will not happen (we shall see).

Trophy husband...

I just have to find a sugar mamma first...

I found a (few) potential trophy husbands. However if this darn dental school thing works out  then no trophy-wife status for me 🙁
