What's your guys' commute these days? Mines slowly killing me

15 min 3x/week
40 min 2x/week

Perfect amount of time for 1.7x speed podcasts, audiobooks, decompress, etc. without too much of a drain on life.

Clinic is only 1.25 miles away.
Of course Bob outdoes me by 1/2 a mile.

I’ve been kicking around the idea of moving so I could have several acres, which would be possible with about a 20 minute commute.

I love not wasting much life in traffic.

3 days per week..20 min
2 days a week....1 hr..

I do not mind either. Schedule phone calls on that time.

10 minutes for 10 years then moved to country and now 35 minutes

Would be doing the reverse sports commute on weekend for kids so a little bit of a wash there.

I don’t like my commute but office is where it is.

45 minutes x 2 twice a week
30 minutes x 2 three times a week

I do similar 1 hour 40 each way: but probably not for long. Great for cme and catching up on phone calls though.
I'll be starting a job with 1.5 hour commute each way -- do either of y'all have Teslas and use FSD?

45-50 mins each way, only 4d/wk and drive is scenic so it's OK and good podcast time.
I could have a shorter commute but like a lot about my current setup.
I also like not living super close to where most of my patients live.

20 minutes for me. Wouldn't want it any longer. Would love to be able to bike to work.

5x/week no traffic 14 minutes, traffic 20 minutes

I remember my first job in DC. When interviewing I groaned a bit over the commuting requirements. One site (4 days per week) was 30 min from where I figured I'd live (if you drive 90 mph down that route into Southern Maryland). The other was an hour away, but two hours to come home with beltway traffic. The owner would drive from site to site some days. "I LOVE driving" was his refrain. Maybe so, but that was insane. He was trying to build a little empire. I lasted a year there.

2x per week 3 min - sometimes bike or walk. I come home for lunch these days
2x per week 12 min
1x week 45 min

Get that.

I live in a medium metro and it is not uncommon to see patients.

The flip side is it does allow you to get involved in local communities.

Currently 45-60 minutes one way, but will be starting a job that is 1 hr 20 mins one way. I like listening to podcasts, so don’t mind my current commute as much.

30 mins each way

Tesla, not FSD.

Don’t mind the commute in the am bc I have breakfast in the car. By the end of the day I’m ready to be home

40 min w/o traffic. 60min w traffic.

Also have a Tesla minus the FSD. Don't need it. Mostly highway driving and autopilot handles that nicely.

Not a fan of the distance but I like the job so I'm staying put unless something better comes along.

Likewise. My clinic is currently ~2mi away.

Twice in my career, I’ve tried to convince myself that a 60 min commute would be ok - and both times I’ve been miserable. It’s almost shocking how much all that driving will drain your energy (not to mention all the time it wastes). Short commutes are where it’s at.

40-45 minutes away, 4x per week. Been doing it almost 3 years now, it’s just far enough away to be annoying but not far enough away that it’s not sustainable. I think anything around an hour would be very tough, or if the job itself wasn’t great then my commute would not be worth it either.

Probably getting a new vehicle soon. Making that drive without any driver assist, blind spot detectors, or any of the other new features in the last 10+ years makes it more of a chore than it would be in a newer vehicle.

1.6 miles/ 5 min

Only problem is the car doesn't get a chance to warm up

Fair point, but I place a premium on having a touch of extra privacy / anonymity when I'm out and about with the kids etc.
That said, I do try to get involved in the local community as I'm able as I legitimately care about it.

It isn’t fsd but I have done super cruise and blue cruise and they both have trouble staying midlane on big sweeping highway curves at speed. It walks over to the outer edge of the lane and I have to take over.

In residency I rode pretty much every day even in the winter, here even though it is a short distance it is not great roads for riding/intersections

I did ride my mountain bike to work once and I spent the rest of the morning sweating so that was that 🙂

I have definitely contemplated an EV, it would actually make a lot of sense for my commute. Do they kick heat out immediately?

yeah my tesla heats up very quickly and I don't even have the updated heatpump in mine (2020 model 3 performance).

you can keep it inside a garage and turn the heat on from your phone. I can also heat the snow off the windows and roof if it's outside at work in a storm, just brush the lights and go.

awesome for short commutes.
