[FONT=Arial, Helvetica][FONT=Arial, Helvetica]"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.
Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure about you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."

by Marianne Williamson.

I have always personally enjoyed this quote and have found it most useful when things seem to not be going my way and when I feel as though I have failed. I know that it is rather religous, which I am not, but it still has a good message. Thus, I have decided to share it with the rest of you who may need a little encouragment on your journey, whether you are already in and just trying to finish your undergrad, preparing for a dental school exam, or whether you are in your freshmen year and preparing for the long journey ahead. Remember that we are ALL special and we all have some talents that others don't posses. Just because some may not see how special you are doesn't mean that are worthless. Keep your head up and remember that life is a jouney and we will all eventually reach our destination in due time. In the mean time best of luck to you all no matter what you are doing!

P.S. if this is a stupid post, and it may be, feel free to delete it.

Thank you for posting this! This is one of my favorite quotes. I really needed to read that today especially since I'm in the middle of studying for my DAT and I'll admit at times I am getting discouraged! Thanks again 🙂

Everyone needs a little motivation... good message.

That I break all my fingers after the 4 years of d-school.

Seriously. Me too. Not even kidding. I refuse to play 'Mercy' now that I've been accepted.

(I'm really not joking.)

I have a reoccuring nightmare (for about 3-4 years now) that all my teeth fall out. It terrifies me!

I guess I shouldn't mention that I made myself a bowl of oats and milk today only to find a weevil floating on my milk 😱
Talk about appetite-killer.... 🙁

Me too! That i'll become crippled after d.school or breaking my hand(s) during clinic years.

That I break all my fingers after the 4 years of d-school.

recently, I've become really scared of my gum line receding..I'm not particularly sure why... In the last few weeks: when I brush I go extra gentle around the gums and sometimes I brush vertically instead of broad sweeping horizontal strokes like I used to...... it takes forever, but as long as it keeps that gum line.

Not getting into dental school. I have no other career plans, so I honestly don't know what I would do in my life. I mean, I have back up plans, but I doubt I'd enjoy it much if I got stuck doing one of those for the rest of my life. And I come from a family of physicians and PhDs and engineers and whatnot, so I'd probably feel like a failure too.

I've had this dream ever since I started getting my permanent teeth when I was young. I usually don't remember any of my dreams, but every now and then I'll get a very vivid dream about some of my teeth coming loose, dangling by a thread with me desperately trying to stick them back in place. It always feels so real until I wake up and frantically check to make sure all my teeth are in place. It's such a weird experience, espcially for someone like me who normally doesn't experience dreams.

You may want to read One Nation Uninsured: Why the U.S. has No National Health Insurance by Jill Quadagno. I found it very enlightening.

Thanks. I don't fear those things because I'm morally opposed to them-- quite the opposite actually. I would love for everyone to have free healthcare and our streets to be crime free and our schools to be shiny and efficient. The fact is US tax revenue is overstretched and shrinking, and we already have $41 trillion in UNFUNDED entitlement guarantees, a number that will only continue to grow as the population ages (forget about the national debt).

So my fear is that someone will get drastic and try to throw nationalized healthcare on top of that and we end up with million-percent inflation as we print tens of trillions of dollars to keep up. See Robert Mugabe.

That despite my competitive DAT scores, I end up getting rejected everywhere for one reason or another.

the people i love getting real sick, the finger breaking thing, flying, stretch marks (i know, i'm vain), loosing my job, getting out of d-school w/ 400k of debt and the nationalization of healthcare or the ****ty economy making it so dentists make 60k a year....then working until i'm 80 to pay off the school debt.

jeeze, depressing.

That I'll wake up one morning with a clown standing over my bed.

On a serious note: thanks for the nice quote OP.

lol!!! Never really understood the clown fear, but it is rather amuzing... Thanks😉

Okay, Stephen Colbert... 😛

I have the whole something happening to my hands fear, too. And just yesterday I got bit by a dog on my right hand (I'm a righty) index finger and my nail is cracked because of it. First thing going through my head: "AAHH I CAN'T BE A DENTIST ANYMORE!" But I think I'll survive this one.

Ya, well I cannot speak to why others dislike clowns, but I can definitely tell you why I hate them. When I was just four years old (this is one of my first memories) my family and I were at some child's birthday party. While everyone else was inside enjoying the festivities, I was outside motoring around on my tricycle. All of a sudden this beat up car comes flying into the driveway of the house. Startled by the noise I look over and see this freakin clown run out. Instinctively scared, I start crying and try to run inside. However, in an attempt to make ammends the scary man with a pseudosmile painted on his face grabs me and tries to comfort me. This freaked me out even more so he let go. The entire video we have of the party I'm firmly grasping my mother and refusing to look at the clown. From then on I was scarred.
