Whats your Major?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
history..... not that its going to get me into med school, but a little late to change it now!

It doesn't matter, really. Just major in somthing you find interesting. It doesn't have to be Biology. I picked physics, but I really enjoy it so I get good grades. Most pre-meds are biology majors which means if you major in biology it won't stand out. Do whatever you like because you will get plenty of biology and anatomy once med school starts.

That's good. Those adcoms love to see liberal arts majors, seriously.

I know, the thing is I really like Biology and also humanities, so I am trying to find something that I could Double Major with.. Or something has them both.

Carlos

Nuclear Med at Long Island University.. dont rank on me i know it isn't a great school but im dumb

Yeah, do something that interests you and make yourself stand out, while still demonstrating you can do well in upper-level Bio.

I was a religious studies major myself.

If that is what you enjoy then go for it. Double Major if you want, but you could also Minor in something else. Don't get me wrong Biology is a great major, its interesting and the research is really cool. The reson I say do whatever you enjoy is because people tend to do better in classes they like which translates into a higher GPA. Oh, one last thing, the liberal arts guys do seem to do very well on the Verbal section of the MCAT. There was a thread recently talking about the importance of that Verbal score. Pretty interesting.

so i more or less base all of my admissions info on a meeting i had with the head at dartmouth, and i know all schools are different, but she kept on going on and on about how they love to see that you do things that youre passionate about because if youre passionate about life and what you do youll be an even better doctor. plus majoring in something you love will help make some of those *more* painful science classes do-able. i personally chose history cause, as jpro said, we'll be doing intense science for the next couple years.
double major! have fun with it 🙂

Information Technology (yes....a tech geek :meanie: )

I would be interested in doing something between:

History, Music, Biology, Marine Bio, psychology..

Which would be better as for medical school admissions?

Carlos

I majored in a very specific major, Interdisciplinary studies...Ha. I'll tell you what, it has been a great major for pre med. I had the freedom to take my prerequisite sciences and I have received a great all around education in many disciplines. I also got to do an original research thesis my senior year and get my upper level writing requirment. Most people do bio or chem research for med school, but since I had so much humanities and social science in my major, I did mine on racial disparities in health care, which I think will be a unique thing to bring up in my interviews. I figure that I will learn all the hard core I science any man can stand in med school, so I wanted to enjoy my major and learn about everything else as an undergrad!

My major is a SURGERY DOCTOR.

There is no "better". If you mean "ordinary" then take bio. Just be sure you have all the prerequisites done.

Apparently Carlos needs to major in Reading, because it has already been posted that it doesn't matter which major he chooses.

Anthropology...not too many of us

Essentially it was a neuroscience major (but called interdisciplinary studies at my school) - not too many of us either.

It's just that I like everything. 🙁

Me too....I started in Aerospace Engineering at UH....moved on to anthropology and physics....and finally decided on Information Technology. I still read as much as I can about anything scientific or Aerospace related.

Come va, OSU? Dove studi? Non c'e` un "major" d'italiano all'Universita` di Florida dove studio 🙁 . E` sempre buono vedere altra gente che parla, non vedo molti fuori i miei classi.

Major: chemistry and either english/philosophy or religion (the sencond major shifts a lot. I have not declared it yet)
Minors: BIOCHEM (I'd major in it but my school does not offer that.) Biology, either philosophy or religion and english depending on which ends up being a major.

 I think all my friends that went to SDSU had this double major.

English and art history. And a minor equivalency in French. One of my science professors commented that those were things people did, not things they studied. Simpleton. 😡 ( )

Athletic training and Human Biology double major.
Chem minor
Only 11 credits of biology left, so I'm taking an interior design class!! 🙂 I'm so excited about that; it has nothing to do with science.

if I would have had time I probably would've looked into art history too.

go do something fun!! 🙂 🙂

How the hell do some of you guys manage to have 3 majors!?!?
