It sucks to know that we're all really competitors, competing for a seat in opt schools. But you know what bugs me?? all the show-offs, all the suck ups, you get my point. They're really great achievments, really. But we all have the same goals here, but to have others rub it in our faces of their high oat scores or gpas are not cool. I may sound bitter, but c'mon, most of us think so too.🙄

yup. what's more disappointing is seeing the schools accept people like that... the ones w/o a good personality... the showboaters... we're living in a kobe world... what ever happened to being humble???

Frankly, those show-offs and suck ups give me some motivation to achieve... what you described is basically known as competition. And this competition is pretty rough especially when scores are curved (like most exams in my undergrad school). But thank goodness, just about all exams in SCCO are not curved.

So the take home message is: let those show-offs inspire you to do better! That explains a significant part of my achievements, at least.

I disagree with your statement, and I actually think it is kind of discriminating (and, yes, a little bitter 🙂) . Why can someone who gets average or below average scores put their scores on this forum without being accused of being a bad person, while others can't, just because they have high scores.

These people worked hard for their scores... they should be proud- they worked really hard so that their applications would be competitive. And, how do you know these people have bad personalities? I have very high scores, and I have never had problems making friends and keeping them, and to be more optometry-specific, I have been very popular with patients at every optometry office I have worked at. So, I would like to think I can't be all that bad of a person 😛 .

Finally, I personally put my stats out there on this forum in order to ask a question (how high of scores one needs to get a scholarship- which I desperately need and is why I worked so hard for my scores). My stats were specific to my question. I'm sure other people put their scores out there for similar reasons. Still other people give out their stats because someone asks them to gauge their own competitiveness.

P.S. I didn't mean for any of this to sound harsh. I certainly don't think high GPA's and OAT scores make a good doctor, but I also don't think they are indicative of a bad person. I just personally felt insulted by the comment that was made.

I'm done venting now!

I think what disparue means is those people that come on here and ask: I have a 3.8 GPA and a 390 OAT.... will I get into opt school? Seems like these people are just coming on here to show off, cuz they really should know the answer to their question!!!:meanie:

I guess some of those people who ask if they will get in to optometry school with such high scores might be showing off. I guess I have to agree with that...But, others might just be very insecure with their EC's, LOR's, experience, etc.- schools do look at a lot more that statistics. I am actually very nervous that I won't get into optometry school, even though on paper I have nothing to worry about. I only applied to 2 schools, one of which has a VERY small entering class size, so I am still kind of sympathetic to the people this thread is pertaining to, since they may just be worried.

I just like to assume the best- that people aren't trying to make others feel bad just because of their scores. I can't imagine why someone would want to rub their scores in someone else's face- that would be low. I know I wouldn't want any of my posts to be taken that way. Especially since I know that anyone who is going to optometry school, whatever their scores, must be one cool cat!!!😎

I don't think there's anything wrong when people on this forum are helping others. With that intent, that's really great, and yes, I have found it very helpful to hear of other's scores and achievements. My comment wasn't made to target the sdn posters, but to just give an insight of others who DON'T post anything on sdn. And of course when we achieve, we should feel proud, but to put someone else down for it is just wrong, and i'm not even talking about the forum (the forum is great 😀 !) I'm talking about life outside this virtual world. I've just been thinking, do haughty people ever change?? and if they become optometrists, how would that affect their career? and would they put their patients first? or their goals/self-image? It's just a random thought. Do tell of your opinions.

I feel ya... Let's just hope that the admissions committees see through the haughty ones so that patients aren't exposed to a doctor who feels he/she is above the very people who are funding his practice!
