When a PT program "highly recommends" a class, yet states that it is not required, do you take it anyway?

I will be applying for VCU's program in next year. They highly recommend taking cell biology, yet it is not manditory. This confuses me because I really don't want to take any more classes than necessary. I would rather save the extra money from not taking a highly recommended and apply it to other expenses (or even future PT program costs).

What do you do? I wish ALL PT programs would remove the "highly recommends" lingo and simply state all classes that are required for admissions consideration.

Please give me your 2 cents worth. It would be great of some current VCU PT students and/or people who applied to VCU in the past would give me their thoughts about taking cell bio for the VCU PT program.

Thanks!

I got my undergrad from VCU last year, but got waitlisted for the dpt program until march, then rejected. It stinks to always make it about the "stats" around here, but that's what it boils down to (you can check mine in the stickied thread- I was pretty non-traditional..). If you're determined to get in, and your gpa is really high, your gre's are really high, and you have a ton of shadowing hours, I wouldn't worry about it, especially b/c I know people that took that class last semester, and it was pretty brutal. But if you're stats are anywhere opposite of the above, I would go ahead and do it, especially if that's your top school choice. It's a pretty competitive school, so make your app. really strong by doing whatever necessary. If I had had more time after fully committing to pt, I probably would've taken it (not sure if they still recommend vertabrate histology too). Maybe some current VCU students will chime in...Good luck!

i just started at vcu this year and i did not take cell biology.
