Hey all

Was doing my nightly pondering and wanted to know if anyone knows better than I do or has advice. I took Orgo lab and Physics 1 in sophomore year and got a C- in both (mental health, orgo lab my advisor told me to take without Orgo 1 which was horrible advice). Now, I’m taking in person summer classes from May to July to remediate these grades. From what I understand, I should wait until my transcript is updated in july to submit my application. However, that means my app doesn’t verify until mid-late july. Is there any other option to get my app out earlier? I know students can submit their apps without their pre reqs done but if I have failing grades and don’t have my new transcript yet, wouldn’t I get screened out?

Any advice is appreciated!

Passing two courses in the summer is not a slam dunk. Here are some choices and consequences:

1) Submit "now" and list your summer courses in progress. AMCAS doesn't allow for academic updates (unlike the other CASes) unless that policy changes immediately. You don't pass your classes or your grades are suboptimal. You'll probably get screened out with the two C-minuses as showing you haven't passed prereqs. Adcoms are under no obligation to wait or request your summer grades, and we can't change them in AMCAS anyway. Wasted application year. (Alternatively, you withdraw your AMCAS and eat the money.)

Note: The other CASes (Liaison platform) allow for academic updates. So you can update AACOMAS once your summer grades are in at the proper window. Your application GPA will re-calculate and adcoms will be notified/an immediate update will be sent. Many programs using this platform will likely have put your file on a review hold until they see your summer grades.

2) Submit later and wait until you know what your grades are before submitting. Your AMCAS doesn't get verified until July, and your file probably doesn't get reviewed until late July/August. No way to know what happens next without a WAMC profile or your motivation to be a physician for mission fit. But are you going to be among the first applicants to snag an II? Well, probably not if you aren't a high-metrics candidate.

Without a WAMC, we can't give you more specific advice than this suggestion from me:
1) Submit your AACOMAS (check TMDSAS) soon, list your summer courses in progress, and do an academic update after you rock your summer classes. Wait and worry for II's like other premeds will.

2) Submit your AMCAS later because you can't do an academic update. You could get screened out if you don't show you pass the prerequisite courses. If you get screened out later due to volume, then you're no worse off than if you got screened out before. The question is going to be whether your mission fit will rescue your file from getting screened out; note this doesn't mean you'll get an II.
