Hey guys, I'm currently a 2nd year, and am really worried about when to take my DAT. I can't take it this summer, because I have to take biochemistry and molecular bio over both summer sessions at my school. The option I was considering was to take the kaplan course (10/13/07 - 11/24/07) during my fall quarter, and then continue to study for and take the DAT at the end of my winter break (Jan 3rd). I plan to take 12 units that quarter: organic chem 51C ( the last class of the o-chem series), physiology and 4 units of research. Do you think that this is sufficient time to do well on the DAT, assuming I begin studying at the beginning of fall quarter ( ~ mid september), but also have to deal with studying for my other classes - physio and o-chem? My other option would be to take it next summer, but that would mean my application would probably be looked at later than others, thus hurting my chances of getting invites. When did you guys take your DAT's, and how were your schedules planned out? I would appreciate any honest feedback. Thanks a lot.

If you think you can do it, then you probably can, unless you're really good at lying to yourself.

None of us knows you...you could be totally studious, a total nerd who never goes out and can read 10,000 words a minute and retain the info, or a total slacker...so you get to decide if it works.

The only thing I can tell you is that even if you were applying next year (in 2008) to get into dental school in summer/fall of 2009, you could take your DATearly summer of 2008 and still be fine. So long as you take it sometime before the middle of July, your application will still get to almost all the dental schools before they even start looking at applications. You also have the ability to postpone your DAT date for several months, maybe even a year, after the date that you originally made it if you want. So you can go ahead with your plans and if a couple weeks or a week before your test you feel totally unprepared, you can call and reschedule for a day, a week, or several months later.

Take the test when you feel ready.

Took the Kaplan course the summer after my second year, took the DAT in October of my Junior year and applied in the very beginning of June during the summer after my Junior year! Hope that helps!🙂
