How long before you applied to optometry school did you shadow?
What I mean is not how long you shadowed but what was the duration between your last day of shadowing and the time you applied?
I just didn't want to shadow and then two years later call up the optometrist that I shadowed and ask for a letter of recommendation. I mean, two years after shadowing, will he still remember me enough write about me?
