I want to know when to take the DAT and apply for dental school, I know a great deal of OC, BIO, GCHEM since I have studied all before, I can even take the DAT now, but I want to know should I wait till the end of third year or go ahead and take it at the end of the 2nd year? currently I am in my second year of Biology.
so please let me and others know when each of you took the DAT and applied for dental schools.

I, personally, would wait. There is no need to rush. Take some more Bio courses, TA and tutor for OC, BIO and GCHEM and you will be even more prepared for the DAT. Waiting will also allow you to improve reading comprehension as you take more difficult science courses. When you say you know a great deal of OC, BIO and GCHEM does that mean that you have actually taken those courses?

Hey, i was in the same situation as you. I decided to take it in the summer after my second year. It turned out well for me, GChem, OC, and Bio were all fresh in my mind... Most of whats in the three science sections are covered in the first year of these classes...the only thing that i had to learn more on my own was some Bio. If you do well, it takes a lot of stress off, and if you don't you know you still have at least another year to prepare. Many more positives then negatives.

thanks for replying, I might go for the end of the 3rd year, which would be in winter 09, then apply at osu for may and so on.. . One more thing I have heard that in order to get into some top post DMD progs like endo, you need to have B.S degree along with good dental school GPA. Is that right? if I would need a BS for post DMD, but I apply at the end of third year, then I would be screwed!!?

enjoy 4 years of undergraduate - im actually enjoying 4 1/2 years

I plan on taking mine at the end of this summer (following my second year) as I will have finished my Chem, Bio, and Orgo prerequisites at the end of this year. I figure that it will be fresh in my mind and I can just go balls to the wall in terms of studying this summer. It'll also be nice to get it out of the way.

But you are not going to apply for D-schools right after the 2nd year, right?

Just take it before June of the cycle you are applying for, that way your AADSAS will go out early with your DAT scores. That is very important.
