I am trying to figure out when most college undergrads on their way to getting their bachelors start applying for PT schools. I have been told that you apply your 3rd/ junior year of undergrad, so you should have all of your core prereqs done before junior year. This didn't sound right to me, so I'm here to ask for clarification.

Basically, what is the BEST time to apply when you are still in the process of getting your bachelors?

Thank you!

The best time to apply if you don't want a gap year is the summer between junior and senior year, if i remember correctly PTCAS opens in July. Most schools want you to have the majority of the prerequisites done but it's alright to have a couple outstanding when you apply. The number varies by school but, I was able to apply last summer while still having to take physics I and II and had no problem getting accepted.

The PTCAS opens up the first week in July I think. I would send out for your letter of recs that week and start your essay. The earlier you apply the less competitive the schools on rolling admissions are. Someone I know applied the first week in August and was accepted into 3 programs before I was accepted into any (I applied the first week in September). I applied the summer going into my senior year of college and I still had yet to take A&P 1/2 and Physics 1/2. I was limited for some schools that don't want to see more than 2 outstanding prereqs. It isn't a bad thing and I was still accepted into multiple schools, just do your research on programs and if you are unsure then contact the admissions department. They are all really nice and welcoming to any questions in my experience. Best of luck to you!
