Most US applicants seem to start applying for dental school during the Month of May. But when do you guys expect to receive intervews? Dec. ?

I am asking this b/c I plan to have a long vacation during the month of July - Oct. once I have sumbitted my applications during May, but afraid that I may miss the inteview period.

In my case, before you do. 🙂

Of course Steven, I am not eligible to apply until I finish my undergrad.

I'm not applying until 2008.

Somebody, please answer this question as i won't be around in August either... and i'm just a little worried.

a few dental schools do start interviewing towards the end of august, but you really don't have to worry. i would say to be in the first batch, you can still interview in oct-nov and be ok (remember that the 1st batch of acceptances is mailed out on dec.1!). the actual interview date is harder to pinpoint than an invitation to interview: and that, i would say, will be asked by the school by the end of august if you applied during the summer (may-july).

i wouldn't worry as much about interviewing "late" (in october instead of august) but i would worry if i was taking 1 month off and couldn't receive my mail. you do want to schedule early (aug-sept, as soon as you get invited) because those slots get filled quickly!

I applied last year, in the middle of June, and I had finished all of my interviews by the end of November (I had attended one interview in August, 3 in October, and 1 in November). I started recieving invitations to interview, by the end of August. Another thing to keep in mind, is that before you even get invited to interview, many schools will contact you for supplemental information, like secondary applications/essays, supplemental fees, photos, etc. Of course, you can send the fees and photos whenever you want, but if a school requires a supplemental application/essay, they have to send you that information first. I remember recieving these supplemental requests all throughout the summer months. You absolutely deserve this vacation, just do your homework first, because if you miss out on recieving critical information/requests from your schools, you put yourself at a huge disadvantage. The earlier you can get in there and interview, the less people you are competing with, the higher your chances of getting accepted. Good luck! :luck: 🙂

Oh man, that sucks! Now i don't wanna leave my old (almost broke down) house and go anywhere.
what do i do... i already got the tickets and they are darn expensive. I guess i can tell my roommate to keep an eye on my mail and keep me informed.
But it won't help a lot as he can't do my secondaries for me.
Ah Shoot!

Its not that bad, just have your roomie check your mail for anything from any dental schools, and then maybe if you guys have access to fax machines, he/she could fax you the info. Or they could just dictate the info to you over the phone. Maybe get in touch with the dental schools and see what they would suggest. I'm sure you can find away around this. 🙂

thanks for the insight guys.

So, when does dental school usually start? Sep. just like the undergrad? Thanks!

Depends on the school. Some start in July, like Arizona, and others start in late September, like LLU, and others start sometime in between.
