When does the most WL movement happen?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
WL movement? There is no WL movement. It's just a myth.

It happened... Just after May 15.

According to this cycle, almost never.

Yeah just from randomly looking thru the allo specific schools it seems in general there isn't much movement.

 Funny since tons of schools have seen little to no movement yet this cycle..

Exactly... I imagine in another month. If it doesn't happen by the end of June/beginning of July its not going to happen and dsoz might be right. At least you got in at the school you wanted, right?

Impossible. Schools aren't that good and people will always have multiple acceptances so they have to pull some by May 15th. How quickly schools contact their waitlist is up to them. I know my school has already pulled up at least 10 people.

Definitely no complaints here. But what a year to pick for applying!

one of the more frustrating aspects of about not being in anywhere is EVERYONE and their mother has an opinion on why I didn't get in. and they unfailingly offer me their opinion whether or not I want it. it's hard become i perceive my application weaknesses different from them and I end up confused as to what to do 🙁

Ya seems most waitlist movement happened the first two weeks after may 15. I imagine its just a trickle now up until August as in maybe 1-4 people might get off the waitlist at most schools.

My feeling also, though it did seem that the "big push" was much smaller this year.

One of my WL schools typically has movement around 45 students. I know SDN isn't the best representation of the whole applicant pool, but only 3 people have posted being accepted thus far.

Another school, who last year had 13 people post acceptances on a single day (their big push), has only had 4 people post this entire "waitlist cycle".

Maybe less SDNers are being accepted this year than in years past, but that seems unlikely. Oh well... 😳

Yeah or the cycle gets more competitive each year which seems logical to me. Or schools want to leave fewer people hanging on the waitlist this year so that people suffer less haha. But I imagine this year there are even more applicants with even higher numbers.

As someone mentioned, SDN is a small chunk of people. Secondly, of course it has slowed down. You're forced to drop schools by 5/15 so obviously that's the big day. After that you'll only get movement from kids dropping out or by schools that waited which could cause someone who is accepted to get off their waitlist and drop their current acceptance. It's all a 1:1 trade off at this point whereas 1 student could clear up 5 or 6 spots with drops on or before 5/15.

I think my school is up to WL #41. A couple of years ago they ended up digging to almost 100.

It was pointed out in the OHSU thread that some people already could have dropped from the wait list. So if it is on #20, but numbers 21,22,23 and 24 have already dropped, then the next change will bump to number 25. It seems like a huge jump but in reality there was only one person that decided right now. All the others decided weeks ago.

Vet Med had slow WL movement this year as well... We only have 28 schools though, so I guess that could be why.
