Hmmm... can't figure out how to change the title of this thread, oh well.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember the UF interview notifications coming out in mid-Feb, interviews in March, and decisions in very early April.
So - my question now is, when does Western U and Florida send out their interview notifications?
Anyone else heard anything yet? I guess there were a couple of interview invites mentioned in the interview thread before Christmas, but afterwards?
Now, now, it's only Tuesday...and they just got in the office (it's 8 am there!)
Ok, end of rational thinking....THEY'RE IN THE OFFICE NOW!!! 😱
I'm starting to get really depressed. I'm pretty sure one of my choices is out (Michigan) since they sent me the results of my dean's review stating that they want me to retake seven classes!! This is in light of the fact that some of my coursework is more than 8 years old. Included in that seven is Biology I and II (are they serious??? I have a B.S. in Biology, have worked in the field since my graduation and they want me to retake the most basic of classes?) 😕
Anyway, sorry about the vent but I'm just bummed. There's no way I could retake all those classes unless I quit work and go to school full time (not an option).
So - my question now is, when does Western U and Florida send out their interview notifications? I'm just curious since those are my other two options. I'm in-state for Florida. I need something to look forward to. 😉
Thanks!
Yeah, but is today the day they let us know...? You're freaking me out!

I am dying to know and checking my email every 6 minutes....
Also, I need to take several classes to satisfy Western's pre-req's. If I don't get an interview I won't be taking those classes- which start next week..... eek![]()
Well Western would like me to take Biochem and Micro over (because of the time limit) however they reviewed my file in November and gave me permission to take those two classes over the summer, since I am already taking three classes this spring and work full time. I guess that's good news that they gave me permission; they must like something about me. I like it because if I don't get in I don't have to bother (although I will still take them next fall for when I re-apply).
Just received an email interview invite! The email linked to a page where I was prompted to schedule an interview during the weeks of 2/4 and 2/11.
Anyone know which airport is the best to fly into?

I got my invite 1/8 by email from Karen Lopez. I am really excited. I have never been to CA and I think I might spend an extra couple of days out there, any suggestions on where to go that's not too far from Pomona?
Anything horse related🙂, but I do enjoy just poking around different places and seeing new things. I like both city and rural places. Is there even anything rural nearby? I have never been to CA so I figured it would be nice to see a few different things while I am there. Maybe visit the San Diego Zoo? Thanks!
Oh you poor, poor excited people. I was you last year. Now I am a completely exhausted first-year Western student (I think I've aged a few years in the process). Western's program is more difficult, more enriching, and more encompassing than any program in the country, IMHO. I took classes at a standard lecture-based veterinary school, and that school was a cake-walk compared to Western. If you choose Western, be prepared to teach yourself the material. Be prepared to be thrown into client interviews and physical exams during your first week of classes (at any one of the three clinics you visit monthly). Be prepared to spend weekends in the anatomy lab. Be prepared to teach yourself histology (an art form unto itself). Be prepared to work harder than you've ever worked in your life. Be prepared to deal with all kinds of personalities, as you'll be in a small room with 6 strangers daily with whom you may not get along. Be prepared to read five texts on one organ just to get the full picture (and be prepared to learn more than you've ever learned in your life and actually retain it). Be prepared to explain the material you've learned down to the molecular level, as the professors will be quizzing you daily (even when you're frustrated and the last thing you want to do is "PBL" a question three days before the exam). Be prepared for 18-week semesters (including two weeks of exams--some are 3 in a day).
Just be prepared.
Someone get me some caffeine!!
😳
You'll get used to it after a while trust me. You will realize how much you know when you hit clinics. It is worth it. It really is (and I was in your same place when I was a first year). Second year is gonna be really tough (virtually none of the cases actually are completely closed by the end of the week) and it WILL SUCK BIG TIME and you will be hating PBL (if not already). When all is said and done and you hit clinics, you will be glad you went through it. Feel free to PM me for support/tips sometime. Now go drink your coffee, you've got lots of things to learn still![]()
Thanks, Chris, you're so sweet!! My only problem is I don't drink coffee! But I've been IVing tea 🙂
Any of you interviewing, if you have any questions while on campus, come see me. I'm Alice in PBL room 114. Or in anatomy lab. Or on rotation. Or on the moon. Say hi 🙂
BTW, they're finishing up the new vet building, but I don't think it's walk-throughable yet.
Alice
Yay! I got my interview invite in my email last night! I work with a woman who interviewed at Western for the DVM program, so she's giving me pointers--like: bring a snack or two & bring some walking shoes (for after the interview)!
I guess I'd better start boning up for the interview...😀
For you Western students lurking on here...😉...anything you think I should ask my interviewers??
Well they are gonna hammer you with behavioral type questions, you can turn around and ask them some. For example:
-Tell me one thing you love about working here and one thing you feel can be improved.😛
I got the rejection from Western today. I appreciate it because it came before I started any of the 5 classes they wanted me to take. I'm really disappointed though- I really would have done well in their curriculum and I really enjoyed my visit to Western for their vet student orientation a few months ago 🙁
Ross...here I come!
Received my rejection letter from Western today. 🙁 I have to say I'm a little surprised; I thought this was the school I had the best chances for an interview. I seemed to fit their demographic perfectly. Oh well.
Florida is my only hope now. I can't believe I have to wait a month for interview notifications!!!
