If I take the May 24th MCAT, the scores are released June 26th. How long does it take for these to get to the schools? If I have everything else in by mid-June should I be able to get secondaries at the same time as everyone else? Thanks

depends on the school, some will send you a secondary as soon as your primary is submitted. others wait until the entire app is complete and some will screen you based on gpa/mcat.

you can submit a completed primary without mcat scores to be verified by AMCAS. it'll go through the verification process until your MCAT scores are released. It can take anywhere from a couple of weeks to over a month to get the app verified.

Yep, so in theory you could have your primary complete in the first 10 days of June, and have secondaries submitted by mid-June. Having said that, anything before August is basically considered early.

So I can submit everything by early/mid-June, and as soon as the scores are released on ~26th, my primary should be verified soon after?

Yeah, once your MCAT scores come out, AMCAS has access to them immediately.

EDIT: In fact, I'm pretty sure you can verify without your MCAT scores, and then just have them updated in to your verified file once they come out. Pretty sure...

This is correct. You can have your transcripts verified before the MCAT is available. This often takes but a few days if you submit your primary application during the first week of June. Once the MCAT score is available, your entire file will be sent to each med school you applied to, often within a business day, if it's after the mid-June release date.

Some will submit their application to only one school initially, as the schools you'd apply to would be very different if you score a 28 vs a 38. Once the MCAT score is known, more schools can be added by re-entering your AMCAS application, paying the extra fees, and resubmitting. Newly added schools also get your entire file promptly.

1) If you take it on June 26, it'll likely be ready around July 26.
2) The trick to ensure you're able to submit your app early (as in 6/1/2012 to 6/3/2012) is as follows: get your coursework verified and add a safety school (maybe your state school) to the list. Next, once your scores are received, you can then add more schools that will automatically be marked complete everywhere you apply.

Yes.

I took the late May MCAT this year, actually decided to wait for my score to submit in late June (had everything in and waited to hit button).

I started getting secondaries immediately and had most complete by August. interviews in Sept/Oct, and had my 1st acceptance in mid-Oct.

The one thing it doesn't do is give you time to re-take if you aren't prepared so make sure you ready the 1st time.
