When is a semester GPA or grade in need of an explanation?

In my situation, my GPA per semester is as follows: 3.86, 4.0, 4.0, 3.66, 4.0, 4.0, 3.44, 3.83. cGPA 3.85 sGPA 3.91

The 3.66 semester I also got a C+, the class was a random honors class I took called "German Immigration to WI," and I pretty much got rocked by it. I couldn't seem to meet the prof's expectations and got a D+ on the final paper (literally the only non-A I have ever gotten on a paper.)

Only explain the C+ if asked. Some secondaries apparently do...

Please don't explain the 3.44.

I don't mean to be rude, because I know there are a lot of people who work really hard and have a lower GPA, but relative to my other semesters, isn't it really low?

No lol. They won't even notice probably because AMCAS classifies grades year by year not semester by semester.

No. A 2.44 would be glaringly low. That GPA wouldn't really raise too many questions in lieu of your other semesters. Everyone has a bad semester or two. As long as you correct the issues (which it looks like you did), you're fine.

I think I literally took the same class. Haha

I actually liked it and did pretty well, but I didn't appreciate how much writing those "blue book exam" classes required before I did. In any event, I don't think the 3.44 will be an issue at all. There are people applying with lower *overall* GPAs than that. That C+ is, like, 3 credits in something unrelated to science? I just don't think it will be a big deal in light of everything else (though I don't know where you're applying).

You probably won't ever be asked to explain a semester gpa, and I wouldn't try to explain it in response to any "explain academic inconsistencies" questions.

You may be asked to explain any grades below B or something, so you can explain anything like that if explicitly asked.

Otherwise, don't draw any attention to trends that may not be noticed on their own
