When is considered "early" to take step 2?

Can someone give me some dates or a brief timeline of things? I keep reading posts about taking step 2 early and having it available with ERAS, but what exactly does this mean? My program director told me that I needed to rock step 2 and take it "early enough to matter" but couldn't give me any dates or explain when this was.🙁

You can submit applications September 1.

It typically takes 3-4 weeks to get your scores back.

That being said, often people will submit incomplete (usually waiting for LORs and the MSPE) and update as they go.

If I were you I would take it by mid-August.

Agree with everything (though mine took 6 weeks to come back 🙁)
