When is it considered too late to apply?

ie: I am finishing up my pre reqs this semester and if I REALLY push, I could take the MCATs in April and apply with everyone else.. but I'm not sure if I will be ready.. thus August is probably the likely scenario..

But I've been reading about how people applied late and didnt even get any interviews with decently strong numbers. So when is considered applying too late?

Thanks

well let me just tell you what you already know...

try and take the april. the mcat doesnt take THAT long to study for if you just stick to a good schedule.

im thinking like anytime november and after would be relatively late.

I have to disagree with Jlee. The MCAT is way to important to rush through. Might as well take it in August when you are ready, rather than take it in April, F***up, and then have to take it AGAIN in Aug. and apply late anyway. You just have to make sure that you do the AMCAS in June, have your letters of rec into the schools, and have all your secondaries done. That way, the second that the Aug. MCAT scores come in, your file will be open for consideration (about mid-Oct.) Of course, you are at a disadvantage if you are late, but you are at a GREATER disadvantage if you get a low score on the MCAT. Believe me....I know all this from experience. I think you should devote your heart, soul, blood, sweat and tears into the MCAT for at least 1.5-2 months. It will be well worth it since this score may determine the course of the rest of your life.

In other words....the MCAT ain't nothin' to F**** with

Good luck.

I'm an august MCATer and I believe that it is true that it puts you at a disadvantage at SOME schools. E.G. UChi, Vandy, Mayo, MSSM, ROchester, et al interview a ton of people early on and then accept a bunch of them even before the August scores are posted. Therefore, when you get your scores, the super-duper Aug MCATers will have you beat for interview positions. If you have a modest score, like me, you may not be at a disadvantage for schools with non-rolling or semi-rolling admissions. NYU, NU, U pitt, et al. Have a "set" acceptance period. NYU doesn't claim to begin accepting people until December--well after you received your August scores. Therefore, IMO, these types of schools would not put Aug MCATers at a disadvantage. This is of course assuming that you did not score below 30 and have a GPA above 3.4.

I took a practice test in April and didn't like my score, so I didn't take the April MCAT. I submitted my AMCAS application in June, as early as possible. I also had my LORs sent as early as possible. Then, I studied for the August MCAT. I took the August MCAT, then switched to completing secondary applications.

The way I did it, I committed myself by submitting my AMCAS in June. If you wait until you get your August MCAT scores to submit your AMCAS, you'll be too late to get interviews.

It worked out for me. I've gotten interviews and an acceptance.
